7. I am also a touch phobic about driving.
Interesting to see others with that problem. My Father died in a car so i always assumed that played into it. It is really difficult for me to force myself to drive and if it is at all possible to avoid it i do. :(

Is there something in your life that you think contributes to the phobia?

10. It'll sound really wierd but as a little kid I _really_ wanted to drive. But then I started
having nightmares about 'jacking my mother's car (like I am 'jacking Phoenix's thread right now. LOL) and going joyriding and getting into a world of trouble when I got caught.

By the time I was 15 they had to force me into taking Driver's Ed. I got my permit, ran it out to the end, took the test, nearly hit another car during the test (not my fault, though!), got a permit extension, got into an accident doing 20 mph and no one got hurt but it peeled the right front fender off and really freaked me out as to what could happen. I think I drove 2 more times after that at my parents' insistence, but I was so sure I was going to hit the bike rider or dog or oncoming car... whatever was in view, that I just flipped and said I would never drive again. (I did though, sorta. Took my littlest boy out in a go-kart. We were both terrified. I've driven our car up and down the driveway a few times, but only when I've been manic. The rest of the time it's scary.)

When I'm manic it just seems stupid that I am so scared of something like driving. Once I woke up from a dream in which driving seemed perfectly normal. I felt so confused as to why I didn't drive and it felt weird to me that I did not have my license. Wish that was a feeling I could reproduce at will so I could just get the stupid license already. *sigh*

11. ...
Just

I am a wreck when i drive but more so when it has been a while since i was behind the wheel. If i know the car and the route really well i do alright. Lately it is becoming more of a problem. We have a new car and my fiance drives most everywhere so every time i HAVE TO drive i panic...badly.

Every time i have a little fit and end up having to force myself to get into the car. It sucks.
