DUers, NFers need your help
Below is a message that I received last night asking for help in securing research funds for Neurofibromatosis. It will cost you nothing but a few minutes of your time if you can spare it. I know from private messages that I am not the only DUer with NF or that has a family member with this genetic disorder. Will you please help us get into the top 25?

Mods, if I am breaking any rules I apologize and understand if the thread is pulled.

Dear Friends:

We entered our Drug Discovery Initiative in the American Express Members Project, a competition for non-profit ideas to get funding. We are one of 1190 proposals. The top 25 proposals as of 9/1/08 will move onto the next round, with a potential to share in a $2.5 million pool of funding.

We currently have 694 votes, and would need to have 952 to crack the top 25 right now.

The voting for the first round closes on September 1. This is very important and will only take 2 minutes of your time. If you are not a card holder you can register as a guest and then vote. Please also distribute this to friends, family and colleagues and ask for their support. While each email address can only vote once, as they say in Chicago “Vote Early, Vote Often”.

This has great potential for us, not only in fundraising, but in public education and awareness if we are able to first crack the top 25, then make it all the way into the top 5 for funding. Many of you have been strong supporters of our work, and I appreciate your past help and hope you will step up now and vote as soon as possible. If you email back confirmation, I promise to remove you from future reminders I will be sending later this week and on Monday, September 1.

Thank you,

John Risner, President

************************************
American Express is running a non-profit contest called The Members Project. An NF supporter has submitted a project for NF Drug Discovery (DDI) funding. There are over 800 projects entered. Twenty five (25) will be selected on September 9th for the finals, with these narrowed to five by September 30th. These five will then compete to share $2.5 mln in funding (1.5mln for #1, 100k for #5).

Please visit http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/J5CMG3 and vote for this project as soon as possible, and please distribute to as many friends and family and ask them to vote on it. This is a great opportunity not only to potentially raise much needed research funds, but to increase public awareness for NF as well.

There is not cost, and you do not have to be an American Express card holder to vote. You may only vote once from one computer, but you may vote from work, home, and public computers.

With over 800 projects, many from much larger organizations, this will be a very competitive contest. But it would be great to see the NF Community get behind this and bring in as many friends, coworkers, and families to vote to support NF research.

Vote early and vote often. We might be small but we are mighty!

Thank you,
Suzanne Earle

1. The link isn't working for me
It might just be my computer, but I'd check it if I were you just to be sure. I guess the site could just be really busy.

which is the neurofibromatosis site, we have been getting word that the servers may be overloaded. The link was working until we made the big push to family and friends.

Thank you for trying.

Edited to add:
It works for me when I use Firefox but does not work when I use Safari.

3. The site is running very slowly
but I do thank the 40+ who have looked at this page. Money is tight for research as we well know. Please vote if you get the chance. As I said, I am not the only one who posts here who has neurofibromatosis. While many folks are mildly afflicted I have had several friends die due their tumors turning cancerous.

4.  Thanking any
DUers who helped Children's Tumor Foundation. There are a few hours of voting left and we only need to be one of the top 25 vote getters. Please let us know if you were able to get to the site. I have boasted to the folks about what caring people this place has.
