So what are some of your Pet Peeves? |
|
One of mine is DU threads with Subject Lines that begin with "So . . ."
I have no idea why. I just find it SO irritating!
Have at it. What relatively petty thing irritates the you know what out of you even if there is no 'good' reason?

1. You realize your subject line starts with "So" right? |

3. Calling it "Eye-wrack" instead of "Ee-ROCK". Is 'Iraq' really that difficult? |
|
If someone says "Eye-wrack", I immediately paint them as stupid, illiterate and a chickenhawk.
And the people living there are "Ee-ROCK-eez", not "Eye-wrackians" or "Eye-wrackeez" or anything else...
Sheesh, people! :eyes:

I'm guilty of that myself. I'll try to change my ways!

Specifically, use of the word "addicting" to mean "addictive".

6. I'm practically illiterate. |
|
Well, I used to be. I grew up in a rural area of the country back in the 50s. Even though my grammar school teachers harped on such things, I just didn't 'get it'. Hell where I come from everyone says punkin for pumpkin. In high school I'd get As over Fs (A for content, F for grammar). I still spell badly (thank havens for spell check!). It wasn't until I became an adult that I began to take word usage seriously. Now at least I know the difference between 'there', 'their' and 'they're', not to mention 'your' and 'you're'. 'Effect' and 'affect' still often confuse me when I start to use them in a sentence. It isn't automatic, I have to stop and think it through. Not being a grammarian, I don't know but I suspect starting a sentence with "So . . ." is questionable.
