Poll question: Cheap fast food fried chicken...what say you?
I had Church's Fried Chicken yesterday for the first time in my life. I think I have found Chicken Nirvana! And I love Popeye's too. But damn, if that was not just about the best fried chicken I have ever had (although it may have been just because I was craving fried chicken that it tasted so good).

5. Church's is the best by far
The last one I went to, it has been a couple of years, had jalapeno peppers.

Every KFC I have been in was filthy. I mean every single one of them. The last KFC I was in, I could feel the grease on the floor as I walked up to the counter.

7. Church's is pretty good, but Popeye's extra hot is beyond good.
Church's now has a hot and spicy version that is pretty good actually.

LOL at a certain corner in my neighborhood there is a Church's (formerly a Popeye's), a brand new Popeye's, and within 1/2 mile up the street a KFC and Chicken Express within shouting distance of one another.

We nearly killed ourselves laughing when the Church's took over the old Popeye's.

Altamesa and McCart is now officially Chicken Corner.

Not to mention, MickeyD, Whattitsburger, and Jack in the Crack within sight of the Popeye's and they all serve some sort of fried chicken too.

Around here there's a small chain called "Cluck-U Chicken" that is supposed to be great.

Me? I love Popeyes!

9. Ezell's!
When I ate chicken, Church’s was the best, with jalapenos. When I moved to the NW it became Ezell’s. Oprah’s favorite chicken is Ezell’s and she has been known to have them overnight a package.

10. Other.
The fried chicken at the deli counter at my local supermarket > any fast food place, period.

Made with love by big Southern ladies and not teens making minimum wage manning a fry vat.

29. That ain't no joke.
I used to have to go to black neighborhoods to get good fried chicken. Just like the better Mexican food is in the Mexican part of town...know-whut-um-say'n? No shame and nothing racial...them's just the facts.

16. local Tucson chain - Lucky Wishbone
I cheated and bought 6 chickens for the 4th of July this year. :9

I have heard Popeye's is good but never tried it. Tried Church's once found it to be very greasy - almost too much so and I love grease. Maybe I should try it again?

I like the flavor of original recipe KFC, but yeah the stores just suck.

20. Red Cap Chicken here in South Austin
Used to be a Golden Chicken, now run by a Korean family. They have the traditional fried chicken-regular or spicy, catfish, fried rice combo plates and several Korean chicken dishes. My wife would eat there 3 times a week if she could.

22. I've enver eaten at Churchs...
one time i had this Customer Service gig taking complaints from various Fast Food hotlines.

My worst complaints came from Church's. roaches, filth, bad sanitation. of course this was 10 years ago. but it stuck with me.

We like Popeye's spicy chicken a lot more, but Chicken Shack's cod dinner is fantastic. And those broasted potatoes are amazing.

Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 09:15 AM by MicaelS
Which is only in the South http://www.chickene.com/ also has very good chicken. They have great gizzards. :9 But if it's a choice between Church's and Popeye's, I choose Popeye's. KFC lost my business a long time ago, when I took the time to call in to Corporate about a store, not once, but twice, and no one ever responded. No call back, no email, no letter, nothing, so screw KFC.

27. I've had Church's, but I prefer Popeyes.
KFC is a joke compared to those two.

Popeye's chicken. Mmmmmm. *drool* We don't have one locally, and I'd nearly give my left arm for a big box of Popeye's chicken and biscuits.
