3. Not sure this is a proverb, but
don't put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow.

Will anything bigger than my elbow even FIT in my ear? I have tried cleaning my ears with my elbow, it didn't turn out so well.

How does any exception PROVE a rule? Exceptions point out FLAWS in the rules.

"This new prescription drug medicine is PERFECTLY safe!"

"Yes, but what about the test subject who went into convulsions and had extreme headaches and spells of vomiting for a week?"

"Ah, that's the exception that proves the rule."

The perfect way for professional con men and hypocrites to wave aside their failings, if you ask me.
