4. The Dept. won't fund my conference registration...

It's $160. That's all. I'm an Undergrad, presenting at a conference that's all PhDs. The deadline for registration in the 19th.

And, one of my favorite Professors blocked it. I'm livid, and just...shocked. I guess my Dept doesn't really support me, the first Econ Undergrad in the Dept. at my school to present at an academic/professional conference. It hurts.

She says that the College of Liberal Arts should pay instead. But, I only have 2 weeks to register, and the bureaucratic process will likely take longer than that. My adviser asked if the Dept could front it to me until that comes through, and no go.

I'm completely livid. I'm done crying, now I'm out for blood.

I miss my old Dept. Chair SO much. This wouldn't have happened of he was still here. x(

7. It's not the end of the road. The College of Liberal Arts has a credit card.

If they agree to, they have the means to pay it quickly. Can you press your dept chair for the name of someone at the college level, and would she be willing to make the call/e-mail on your behalf? Greasing the wheels of conversation with chocolate helps sometimes.

8. From what I gather, she's playing dumb...

As in, she's just become Dept. Chair, doesn't know what to do, and apparently none of the faculty in the Dept. have a clue how to do it, even though my other Prof suggested that this was the better option. So, my adviser and I are emailing and calling the people at the CLA fund, and we'll deal with it on our own. We both feel slighted. I'm an A student with a 3.9 GPA, and she's a PhD who's been there for 7 years.

Basically, it's all up to us, I guess. My adviser is emailing the Dept. Chair this evening, b/c she's not pleased with how it went. Had this been my former Dept. Chair, who retired in June, he would have just approved it without the entire faculty weighing in.

This just stinks. I have enough stress. It didn't help. I don't want to feel at odds with my Department, at all. Ugh.

9. Hold on a second. How do you know the way this decision went down?

In my experience departments are not that transparent in their operations that a student could find out who put the kibosh on them.
