About a month ago I filled out one of those form thingys you see at supermarkets and malls. You know what I mean, a pad of paper in front of a car, moped, or some other tricked out motor(or other)-type vehicle that you put your info on, rip off, fold, and put in a box?
And a couple of weeks later I get an envelope in the mail telling me that I'm a grand prize winner. Being the cynic that I am I go online and look up the company listed on the envelope to make sure they actually exist. I make sure the address on the envelope matches the info online. I even look up the person who's name is on the letter they sent me to make sure she actually works for the company in question. Then I use the net to check the Better Business Bureau to make sure the company's, you know, in good standing and all that.
After I make sure everything is kosher I'm still wondering whether I should actually fill the form out and send it off. I went over the release with a fine-toothed comb, reading every word and phrase again and again until I understand it. Then I take it over and get it notarized (being an employee of a local university, that notarization was free). I stuff the whole thing into the postage-paid envelope and send it off thinking if they steal my identity (what with a birth date and social security info on the paper) they aren't going to get too far with it.
A couple of days ago I get a call from Best Buy telling me that my 37 inch flat screen HD television is being delivered the next day and can I please be there during that time or call them to let them know I won't be?
Sure enough the next day a delivery guy brings a brand new television to my house.
A television.
That I won.
Even though I know better I can't help but think this bodes well for my job hunting prospects. :) Even if it doesn't who cares, I still won a television!
