Every March, I hope for a race to the last game. I absolutely adore monitoring two or even three games at once in the last couple weeks of September, nerves and all. It's a helluva lot more fun than winning by eight games or somethin'.

I dunno how Jankee fans had any fun in the '50s and early '60s.

Guess it's the way I was brought up on it. In '65, my first season, Koufax went on two days' rest in the next-to-last game to beat Milwaukee 4-1 on a four-hitter for the Dodgers to clinch. In '66, the Giants won their last six and we beat 'em by a game and a half, even though we were 3-3 over the same stretch. (Koufax beat the Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader on the last day, again on two days' rest.)
