My dad could use some vibes, please.
He called to tell me he had a stress test done, and they found that there's a portion of his heart that isn't getting enough blood (at one point in the conversation he said blood. Later he said oxygen. So, I'm confused). The cardiologist wants to do an angiogram, and then probably put in a stent. Then he'd have to be on Plavix for the rest of his life. For some reason, he really doesn't want to be on Plavix for the rest of his life. The doctor told him to think about it and decide what to do. I suggested he get a second opinion, and he said he hadn't thought of that, but probably will.

If he does it through this clinic, he'll be hospitalized at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee. I'll give MKE DUers a heads-up if I'm gonna be in your fair city.

I'm really scared of losing my dad, though I didn't realize until after I got off the phone with him. He's the same age my mom was when she died--73. I don't think of that as being all that old. But after my mom's death, well, this scares me.

So, I could use some vibes! Thanks!

5. You got it.
Best wishes for you and your dad. A second opinion sounds reasonable.

I hope for a long and happy life for him.

6. My dear mycritters...
Vibes to you both...

Now, as to what is going on: He needs both blood and the oxygen it carries to the part of his heart that isn't getting enough of either. The blood carries the oxygen.

Probably there's an artery with a smaller than normal inner diameter, and this is preventing the blood with its oxygen from getting through in sufficient amounts.

The stent will hold open that artery and then the blood flow will increase...

It's all good, but of course your dad needs to get the second opinion for his own peace of mind.

I hope he does well!

7. Thanks for the info, peg! I've had lots of parishioners go through these things,
But somehow, when it's someone in my personal life, I lose all the information I should have from being with church members at times like this. I'll encourage him to get that second opinion, but to get something done. Thanks!
