Scarred DUers - where are they and how'd you get them?
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 12:10 AM by DeposeTheBoyKing
1. Kitty bite mark on front right calf - sustained in 2003 when our late Simba was sleeping under the covers near my legs, something startled him and he jumped and bit me hard before jumping off the bed and running away

2. Scar on right knee - sustained at approximately 5 years of age in a fall on the pavement

3. Scar on right 4th toe - sustained as a child when my mom panicked during a tornado siren and yelled "Get your clothes on!" so we could run to the neighbors' basement and I ran into the fan and cut my toe while rounding the corner to my bedroom

WOW! Everything is on the right side! It's DARK-SIDED, I tells ya!

1. right knee- slid taking a corner on gravel on my bike, got a lot of gravel embedded in my skin.
Right shoulder, arm and leg- more road rash, this time after losing a fight with a car on my bike.

Halfway down my right thigh, there's a scar/divot from the infected spider bite from hell.

And on my left ankle there's a huge puffy scar from where I split my skin open real deep on my bed frame, and a set of matching scars on my left foot where a rusty nail went through.

4. Three of them
Next to my eye: fell off a chin-up bar during 4th grade gym class.

Under my left ear: gouged it with a branch while crashing through the brush during an infantry training exercise at Camp Edwards in the early 1990s.

Right shoulder blade: Had a mole removed for biopsy, then had surrounding tissue removed when the mole proved to be pre-cancerous.

5. Left eyebrow
Smacked into the back of the garage after doing a lay-up when I was 13. Lots o' blood. :D

• Right forearm — chasing my sister when I was about 8. She ran into the back bedroom, which had French doors. As she slammed the door behind her, I stuck out my hand to try to stop it. I hit glass instead of wood and went right through it.

I've also got a lotta little scars on my fingers — "knuckle knockers" from working on cars, mostly.

Forehead: Don't fall and hit your head on a sharp furniture edge.

Thumb: Don't eat it on the sidewalk.

Knee: Don't trip in the gravel parking lot. (That one took MONTHS to heal.)

Upper arm: Don't fight with your roommate who is bigger than you.

Knee, shin, ankle: Don't get bit by chiggers.

7. okie doke, me shivering maties!
1 - On the top of my left hand - No idea, but the fact that I can't remember suggests it was a fight.

2 - Left forearm - Compound fracture....also fight related.

3 - Right hand, where the middle finger and ring finger meet, running down my palm about 3/4 of an inch. Sustained while trying to climb over a chain link fence as a little kid. My foot slipped and my hand snagged the 'Y' shaped wire at the top.

4 - Right hand/Pinkie knuckle...broken and cut so many times my pinkie knuckle is pushed a quarter inch back on my hand. When I make a fist there's no knuckle anymore. :(

4 - Right thumb - Dog bite

5 - Right bicep - Same bloody dog.

6 - Forehead - Hockey stick to the face as a small child playing street hockey with a neighbor. My first "battle scar"!

7 - Small scar above along my right eyebrow. I was running through some woods, ducked under a tree branch, and came up face first into a barbed wire fence. Doh!

8 - Small scar on my left cheek from trying to shave when I was six.

9 - Big scar on my neck from having my thyroid and a bunch '0' lymph nodes taken out.

10 - Two small scars on each knee from having fluid drained. More hockey related fun!

11 - My left shoulder - Deep burn. Since the thyroid surgery I've had no sensation on the top of my left shoulder. One night shortly after the surgery I was trying to loosen my neck up and used a heating thing that you heat up in the microwave for a minute. I dozed off with it on my shoulder and never even felt it burning me. It burnt a quarter size hole in my shoulder. Thankfully, there was also zero pain afterwards. Whew!

12 - Foot/heel. A nail went through my foot and out the side of my heel, under the ankle.

That's it so far, but give me a week or so and I'm sure I'll injure myself in some new, exciting way!

8. several
1. Scar on my forehead from my childhood. Pretty faded by now.

2. Scar across my right bicep from getting myself and my motorcycle tangled in a barbed wire fence. (Think Steve McQueen in the Great Escape.)

3. Broken right little finger that won't straighten. I'd like to say that it was basketball or football but it was rec league volleyball.

4. Broken right second toe that won't move at all = also from volleyball.

5. Scar in my groin from a testicle biopsy.

6. Scar across my left middle finger from a hand-saw that jumped on me.

I think that's about it.

14. It's all K-Mart's fault!
Scar on my left shin. Walked out of a door, tried to avoid someone pushing in, walloped into this metal grid they had the other side of the door. Shaved off a good amount of skin.

My shin's still there. The K-Mart closed down and was torn down and replaced with a Lowes Home Improvement store.

Left calf-- jumped for the frisbee, landed on the broken bottle.

Right knee-- a simple fall, no biggie, followed by massive staph infection.

Right hand, little finger webbing-- roommate, knife, argument over a girlfriend. Were we really that dumb?

Forehead-- pavement. Fell from playground equipment.

And in the interests of full disclosure....

Penis. Surgical trauma, aka circumcision.

20. From what I can see right now...
-One above my left eye, when I fell off a fence I was climbing at 18 months after the dog on the other side scared me.

-One above my right eye, when two of my friend were messing around in seventh grade. They were chasing each other for some reason, and while I managed to avoid Joey, Zack's coat had a zipper at the end of the sleeve and caught me in the face. Got out of gym class for that one.

-Several on my right calf from a dog attack when I was seven.

-Two on my left forearm from a dog attack when I was nine.

And six on my left foot from my cat when I wasn't paying enough attention to her.

27. Too many to name, but the highlights
Right kneecap: An almost perfect circle from landing on it after tripping coming out of a KFC near Tokyo.

Just above the right kneecap, a long raised scar from the "pump" on a screen door, which came came unattached on one end just as I was barreling through it and tore into my skin.

Below my right knee: Irregular scar from sliding down a rocky path while walking my dog.

Abdomen: Several keloid scars from laparascopic gallbladder removal.

Front of both ankles: Dark scars from getting the dog lead tangled around my feet and the dog taking off, tightening the lead.

Back of left ankle: Large keloid scar from a metal screen door tearing open the skin because the door shut on the back of my ankle as I was stepping into the house.

Back of left forearm: Grease burn from my one evil summer at McDonald's.

Left and right wrists, forehead: chicken pox scars.

Upper lip: Vertical scar from falling facefirst onto a cinder block when I was 3.

Both shins: Shaving scars.

Left cheek: Small round scar from accidentally scraping myself with my fingernail.

Right middle toe: Cut myself while washing off my foot in a creek.

28. Sheesh - I know I don't remember them all!
1) Left Shoulder - rotator cuff rebuild scar - goes from front edge of armpit to back edge of armpit - loads of scar tissue inside the joint. Surgeon says to not ever tear it up again since he would not be able to rebuild it to be functional.

2&3) Both knees - arthroscopic scars from medial meniscus removal. Waiting for the inevitable knee replacements.

4) Scar on left shin - from falling on stairs when I was three years old and cutting to the bone. I remember thinking it looked cool to see that hard white thing under the skin...

5) Burn scar on top of right foot from stepping in a bed of coals and getting third degree burns to entire top foot.

6) Scar on first finger on right hand from slamming a iron framed door on it - severed nerve so there is no feeling in half of the fingertip.

7) Same finger - two inch scar from slicing open finger while cutting mushrooms - six stitches to close cut and stop bleeding.

8) Scar in palm of left hand from acid removal of wart.

9) Scar on forehead above left eyebrow from horse striking me in the face (that was second of four concussions - others did not leave scars).

10) Scar on knuckle of first finger on left hand from another knife accident - this time slicing turkey.

11) Scar on right eyebrow from horse knocking her head against mine - broke eye ridge.

12) Dent in right thigh muscle from horse kicking me - son of above horse and I did not realize he was getting ready to kick since I was temporarily blind in the right eye from bleeding in the eye socket as a result of the accident above.

13) Scar on right shoulder blade from horse stepping on me after knocking me down.

14) Scar on lower abdomen from hysterectomy.

15) Scars on right breast from horse bite - lots of scarring inside, too, which is fun when I get mammograms.

16-??) Innumerable small scars on arms and legs from horse, cat, dog, insect, spider bites, and scratches, pokes, splinters, thorns, etc. from working around a farm for 30 years.

30. This could take a while...
1. scars from stepping through an aquarium. (Long story, but yes, I did it.) - Back of left calf, heel of left foot, on my shin bone.

2. Left kneecap - carrying out the trash as a kid. It was too heavy and there was a soup can lid that sliced right through my jeans and my kneecap.

3. Right forearm - stabbed with hunting knife...another long story.

4. right calf - sitting on the floor as a kid removing carpet from the den. Those long "ruler" looking strips of wood they use with the tacks sticking up? There was one in the middle of the floor, attached there. I slid my leg over it and bled like a stuck pig for an hour. It probably needed stitches, but I managed to stop the bleeding with ice and masking tape. I shit you not. Bleeding is child's play to me.

5. Right below left eyebrow (and consequently where the first of my dain bramage happened) - thrown from back of motorcycle Wile E. Coyote style, hovered in midair for about 5 seconds, then landed face first into a bunch of broken glass, rocks, and sticks (the remnants of a camp fire, from the looks of it)

6. Bottom of my belly button, right side of my stomach, about 3 inches above belly button - gall bladder surgery

7. The letter "D" carved into my right knee - it was a fad at my junior high for us to carve our first crush's first initial somewhere on our bodies. I think about 3 of us actually went through with it. I have no shame about it though. I never had any fear of a knife as a kid and I still think the first woman I had a crush on is hot hot hot (See Deborah Harry pictures to know what I mean)

8. small scar below my left bottom lip - My first dog was "too big" so my mother gave him away. She then went to the pound and got a "kid biter" dog for me to have as a pet. Surprise! He bit me, but it was an accident. We got tangled up in his chain while playing and I fell down. The dog lost his balance too and his teeth accidentally hit my bottom lip. He was actually a good dog and never bit any children again after I got him. Dunno how he got that reputation. I loved him. His name was Sockie and he lived 18 years.

8. one inch scar on left aereola - lump removal surgery

9. barely noticeable scars on other parts of my breasts from breast reduction surgery. My back thanks the doctor for it too.

(I could keep going for days, practically...)

10. Right middle knuckle - busted it on a boy's mouth (his teeth, really) in middle school. He said I couldn't play baseball. I couldn't prove I could there at school, because the school wouldn't allow me to try out. I knew I could play, because I played at home in my neighborhood. The boy wouldn't shut his trap. He gave me some lip. So, I gave him some knuckles. Dumb ass was grinning at all his buddies when my fist made contact. His teeth cut my hand, then his momma had the audacity to say I chipped his tooth. My mother told her tough shit. The filthy little bastard shouldn't have been bullying me and badmouthing me. My mother then kicked his mother's ass and the rest is, as they say, history. We never had trouble out of that family again.

11. Under my hair, on my scalp in the back of my head - smacked in head with hammer, probably where some of the rest of my dain bramage came from. The majority came from overuse of every drug available to me...God, I miss drugs...

12. Right shin bone - bad idea, I was drunk and working on a shed in the back yard. It needed some roofing tar to patch a leak. Like I said, I was drunk. After I finished applying a liberal amount of roofing tar to be done with that shit once and for all, I tried to "hop down" from the roof instead of actually trying to bother climbing back down the ladder. I try to fly or jump from high places every time I get drunk. I don't know why.

That's all for now. There are others, but nothing significant.

31. I've got a small scar on my left pinkie right at the base of the nail.
It's what I got for showing off. I was in the Army, and a bunch of us guys were showing off with a combat knife. Playing 'turkey' and all that. Well, I was knifing the spaces between my fingers faster than any of the guys had ever seen before. Kind of like Bishop in "Aliens". Anyway, I got cocky, stabbing faster and faster until, sure enough, I stabbed myself a good one just below the nail on my pinky. It bled like a son-of-a-gun. I felt too stupid and embarrassed to go to the aid station and get it taken care of. So I just put some pressure on it to stop the bleeding, and that was that. Still have a shiny little scar on my pinkie...

33. I have 3 to speak of...
1. half inch divot about an inch away from my left eye. Learned at an early age (about 5) that running in the house was not a good idea when I ran into a table corner. Very lucky I don't have a glass eye right now because that was a nasty cut!

2. Smallish scar on the bridge of my nose caused by a drunken fall into some bushes when I was in college. Learned at a slightly older age (about 21) that running while drunk isn't smart either. I tripped on a curb and a branch in some shrubs cut my nose. Luckily I was wearing glasses at the time or I might have a glass eye because those branches destroyed my lenses.

3. Small scar on the palm side of my left middle finger. I got it when my sandal got caught on an uneven sidewalk (when I was about 18) and I used my hands to brace my fall. I think a small pebble sliced my finger open. I was actually bleeding from both knees, both hands and one big toe from that fall but only have one scar to prove it.

one on my right front hip/leg for a hip replacement.

Left side of my head from just above my ear all the way back to my neck. I was hit with something I don't remember what.

Five on my left knee from two different surgeries.

Three on my left shoulder from a rotator cuff repair. I fell off a truck a few years ago and dislocated my shoulder.

One on my left thumb. I tried to cut it off. That took twelve stitches.

A large scar across my left leg from a rope burn. Bailey decided to chase after a squirrel and wrapped his leash around my leg.

One on my left foot from my brother throwing a knife at me.

I think that's all the big ones.

Head to toe:

My right eyelid got scratched by one very wild cat (it droops more than the other one now)

Above my upper lip there is a chicken pox scar

Left arm has a smallpox inoculation scar

My upper chest has small but noticeable cat scratch scar

My belly button & each side of my abdomen (tiny scars) from my (LASH) hysterectomy

Left knee has a scar from when I was pushed out of a wagon when I was 4

Right knee has a scar from a spill on my bike last Mother's Day

I think that's it... other than many internal scars I won't get into!

39. Quite a few
Inside of my left thigh - ripped open on a chain link fence when I was in 1st grade.

Small one on the left side of belly - had a tumor removed while in grammar school (maybe 7th grade).

Tiny one on my left middle finger - I was fucking around with a butcher's knife and chopping (big, tomahawk chops) tomatoes fast and carelessly and missed the tomato on one try.

Behind my right nipple - result of a piss poor piercing.

Right temple - result of a fight where I took a face plant on the pavement.

40. large one down my chest, and larger ones on each thigh.
from a quadruple bypass in October of 2003.

Kind of embarassed by them, but I'm still alive to feel that way so I guess I can't complain.

A few other odd and ends, but nothing compared to my zipper over the breastbone. (It's held together with steel wire.)

41. Scars on the right elbow courtesy of a drunk driver
...I was sitting in the passenger seat of a early 80s Tercel and we were hit by an early 70s Buick. My right arm went through the window.

Broken blood vessels on my left cheek -- bike accident at the corner of US 27 and Ronald Reagan Parkway during the 2004 Central Florida MS 150 -- I blame Ron

Circular scar on my left leg near the shin. In my early 20s, a bug bite got infected, and (because I had no medical insurance), I let it go too long. I finally saw a doc-in-the-box who positively freaked out and thought I'd need skin grafts. The scar is about 1" in diameter, and I tell people I got it in a gun battle in Miami in the late 80s, because I firmly believe the truth should never get in the way of a good story.

Small divot on forehead : I ran into the corner of an end table at age 2 or 3.

42. My major ones:
On each side, just below my left knee, a small circular scar from where they inserted the pin when I was in traction (for 6 weeks), on the top of my left thigh, a long thin scar down the center, from where they cut my leg open and set my snapped femur, scars on both knees from the accident that caused the aforementioned injury, as well as a little bit of gravel in each.

43. Center of forehead
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 05:49 PM by qwlauren35
Got into fight with sister somewhere between 8-12 years old. I threw a brush and it dented her favorite piggy-bank. It was an ceramic apple that was half eaten away with a mouse sitting in it and looking contentedly stuffed.

She retaliated by throwing the brush at my head. All I remember is seeing blood dripping down my face and thinking that I was going to die.

It was a surface cut. Sheesh!

46. lots but the best is my rt knee. horse drug me when he saw and freaked out about some ostriches.
same horse caused a few others. In fact most of my scars are horse or livestock related. Just lost a fingernail to a vehicle and will probably lose a second.

have 4 strange little scars from the laproscopic gall bladder surgery, and a few old chicken pox scars - didn't get it until I was a junior in HS. The rest are just life:rofl:

47. Hmm...
Right thumb -- lawnmower got clogged with grass and shut down after a solid 20 minutes of mowing, I reached over to remove the spark plug in preparation to clean out the blades, and promptly bumped the searing-hot engine with the back of my thumb. I spent a solid fifteen minutes screaming and cursing, and it left an inch-long scar after two full weeks of healing.

Right index finger -- accident in high school art class. Sliced my fingertip open with a wood-working tool.

Lower lip -- did a faceplant off a picnic table onto concrete at the age of two.

Right bicep -- had a small lump or cyst of some kind develop there last spring. Tried to remove it manually with a couple types of knives -- boning, exacto, and a box cutter. Couldn't get enough leverage to do it right -- would have taken out more flesh than I was willing to lose. Still have the lump.

Right knee, left cheek: Freshman year of high school. My mother went into one of her fits of paranoid hysteria and insisted on having a couple large moles removed because she thought they might be cancerous -- despite no real evidence for that possibility. Just her being a fucking lunatic, as usual. They were perfect harmless, so I got a pair of huge, lumpy keloid scars thanks to her. The one on my knee eventually smoothed out, but (after six months with no improvement) I had to have the one on my cheek cut out and the wound irradiated to keep it from coming back. (Thankfully, insurance covered it.)

Base of right palm: Can't say for sure, but judging by the look of it, I'd say a cat bite.

49. Base of left forefinger, a small one on my left temple and
road rash on my right elbow. All as a result of being bucked off a horse.

Lots of little slice and dice scars from various art projects, and a few dents and bumps from childhood tumbles. Overall, nothing too drastic.

51. So many options
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 03:51 AM by quakerboy
The highlights Follow

Lower leg: Gardening with a Katana

Back of my hand: knife fight(ok, not really. Don't actually know what from, but the placement is just too good not to have a story)

upper arm: extreeme book reading

pointer finger: Inevitable result of the first real knife I owned, milked it and wore a huge bandage for weeks.

eyebrow: Went up and over a car that didn't see me as I crossed a freeway while running away from home. Also the only time I have ever involuntarily lost consciousness.

52. I've got a few, mostly on my hands and arms.
They're job-related mostly - scraps or cuts or slices I've given/taken out of myself in the past 11 months. I've got a good one on my left forearm that I got last year by scraping against a couple of nice, small, sharp nails sticking out at an awkward angle.

I don't have and scars with good stories, though... Mostly just hurting myself at work!

53. Cheee-rist where to begin
the coolest is a Y-shaped scar on my upper arm where I fell onto a hood ornament while chamois-ing a car (that one went all the way down to muscle). Multiple from removal of moles on my arms, legs, face, back. Multiple on my abdomen from several surgeries, a couple on my scalp from biopsies. A very large one across my foot from a box cutter accident. Several on my arms from cat scratches. One on my thumb from a stab wound (don't ever attempt to de-pit an avocado while holding it). Multiple on my breasts from reduction surgery and from removal of cysts. And the ultimate in TMI? several on my bum from having the misfortune of chickenpox whilst still in diapers.

54. Got quite a few.
Multiple scars on both feet from surgeries after being born with club feet. The most impressive one is a zipper scar on my left foot that goes all the way from my heel halfway up my calf from Achilles tendon surgery.

Also have one on my elbow, again from surgery, where my left radius head got removed due to a fracture/dislocation when I was a kid.

Got another one on my knee, when I cut myself with a pocketknife as a teenager, that got me six stitches.

55. From stitches on left knee
I was running to our pantry when I was about 4 and suddenly my knee was bleeding badly and I was screaming. I'm told the suspicion was that I had run by the bag of trash waiting to go outside and when they looked in it the only thing they could find that could have cut me was the teeth on a discarded aluminum foil container. The only problem was that the bag was on the right side of me, so we don't really know.

57. Four
Two surgical scars on my left wrist that cross each other. One big zipper scar on the left side of my head from brain surgery. And one small scar on my right wrist from when, at age 10, I slammed the glass storm door with my hand on the glass and my hand went through it. My mother always told us not to shut the door with our hands on the glass but I thought she was just being picky about fingerprints...

58. my elbow and my head
the ones on my head are small but my eye is funny from my brain injury so that part's obvious :( not exactly a "scar" though.

Far as yucky scars go- my elbow was crushed and then rebuilt so it has a big scar that takes up a lot of my left arm.

59. I have some scarring on my left knee
from when I fell off my white, ankle-high go-go boots when I was 10 or 11. My grandma had bought them for me, and boy, did she feel bad when I came home bleeding like crazy. I was running up the stairs at school at the recess bell, and I tripped up the stairs.

Little girls shouldn't wear grownup shoes, that's all I'm saying.

I also have a very nice scar underneath my right index finger from where I cut myself with a mezzaluna last December. Five stitches--I'm just glad I didn't go any deeper, or I would have severed something important. The mezzaluna went into the trash as soon as I got home from the Urgent Care. No more really sharp knives for me--I'll stick to my old, dull ones.

60. 12 stitches in my shin from accident at work
you can see it in this pic, where I am tormenting my cat Clancy with my foot:

Computer room raised floor at work - engineers had replaced a full tile with a tile that had a quarter of it cut out to run cables through - but they forgot to teplace the full tile. I fell into it and knocked a small chunk out of my shin down to the bone. After I returned from the hospital at midnight, I continued working until 06:00. :o
