Today's College Football and Tailgate Thread
The week’s first upset is already in (Vanderbilt beat South Carolina on Thursday) :woohoo:

There aren’t a lot of great matchups today, as most of the top teams are still playing cream puffs. Top-ranked USC has the weekend off, preparing for next week’s showdown with #3 Ohio State. Ohio State doesn’t quite have the weekend off, but they’re playing Ohio, so they probably won’t be too tested. Georgia plays Central Michigan and Oklahoma plays Cincinnati. The biggest game among the top teams is Florida—they play Miami for the first time since 2004. Of course, Miami is not as good as in years past, but it should still be fun to watch.

Next week offers a few more high-profile games—this weekend, oddly enough, there’s not a single game between two ranked teams. Oh well, I’ll be watching anyway, especially the Sooners (who I didn’t get to see last week) and the Illini, who play Eastern Illinois this week. And whether or not the games are good, the Shiner Bock and burgers will be :)

So what game are you looking forward to today? Who is your team playing?

1. The Ohio Bobcats are giving tOSU a game
3-0 in the second quarter. The Buckeyes just went for it on 4th and 1 around the Ohio 30 and got stuffed.

20. This. Coverage. Is. Horrible.

I shouldn't complain too loudly, but GAH!

One of the announcers doesn't even seem to understand football. "I don't know what that penalty could have been. I was looking down field toward the ball." Well, if you were really looking down field toward the ball you might have noticed that massive BLOCK IN THE BACK right there by the ball.

Lawdhavemercy.

Sooners seem to have some holes in their defense. Troublesome.

21. agreed
and they missed some great football on that stupid interview. That always drives me nuts.

The defense seems to be selling out to get pressure more than they have in a couple of years. It worked fine on the first drive, but they've given up some big plays since. Beyond the Defensive Line, though, they're pretty young on that side of the ball.

And they've got to get better covering kickoffs.

36. This game is a bit of a mess ...

The score is moving in the right direction. OU's offense is clearly very powerful. Their defense needs some improvement, but I sorta think that's part of what this game is about, and there is clearly talent there. The speed on the front line is awesome. The secondary is out of position a bit too much, but that's fixable.

Regardless, OU has been sloppy today. Bradford is clearly very good and has a rocket for an arm, but he doesn't think sometimes, going for the big play when he doesn't need to do so and getting burned in the process.

A lot of footage from this game is going to end up at practice meetings, m'thinks.

I'm more amped than usual about college football season this year. For various reasons I missed most of it last year, which is probably the reason.

And the Sooners will actually be in television down here today. :woohoo:

12. They're 15 point dogs
The Beavers are expected to finish in the upper half of the conference which means that they should be bowling.

But it's not an easy OOC schedule with Utah also on the schedule. And everyone in this conference has to play USC. I think they will finish either 4th or 5th in the conference standings.

11. We're playing at East Carolina today at 4:30 pm Eastern.
It will likely be a very WET game, as the remnants of Hanna dumped quite a bit of rain there earlier. That's okay, though; we West Virginians know how to handle mud.
