Does anyone else remember
rolling down hills.....

getting on your back putting your hands across your chest and going down the hill???
once in a while hitting a rock OUCH!!

we use to do it, all the time.
sometimes we used boxes and rolled down in them...
I don't see the kids do this anymore...
hell, I don't see kids playing any more

just something I was thinking about at 3am last night when I couldn't sleep...

(I don't sleep any night but thats a different story) :*

5. Yes!
I remember when finding fun ways to roll down a hill was fun, because that was basically what there was to do.

Now, there are so many structured games, and electronic games, that nobody would even imagine just rolling down a hill.

And rolling down a hill is the sort of thing you did with friends when your parents were not there. Now, kids never go anyplace without their parents.

So it's just not the same world anymore.

13. Hey!
I just spoke with him on the phone and I don't think he'd mind if I gave you an update.

His cognitive functions are coming back very slowly. His speech is still a bit slow and he seems to search for words, but not like earlier in the week.

The migraine's grip is weakening but he's still not all that great. He posted and then went to take a nap.

16. I'm okay
I have a couple interviews early next week. I pray that one of them results in an offer.

ZombieNixon, Lelapin and I are heading for Columbus next weekend to move her into her apartment. This is her last year of college. I can't believe it's gone that fast.

We'll also be in town for SallyMander and IzaSparrow's Columbus wedding reception on Saturday night. I can't wait.

How are you?

Oh, and watch for a PM...

28. What she said.
:)

The delays and gaps in my speech are shrinking. I'm stuttering less. I hope to be speaking normally again shortly.

I've stopped taking the med the caused this, and resumed the med that prevents migraines that I had to stop taking because it conflicted with that med.

I'm already feeling more pain in my hands and feet, I'm going to resume my loss of function without the use of the med I just stopped taking. But these are no good choices right now.

18. Kids can't do that anymore.
They need a helmet, elbow and knee pads, and a permission slip from mom.

And that's assuming the parents don't have so many structured "activities" for their child that the kid even has a chance to just roll around and be a kid.

23. I hardly ever see kids that just go out and play anymore.
I used to get up, head out, and come home in time for dinner. No soccer lessons, no piano, no band, just mindless running around, catching frogs, playing whiffle ball, and mindless stuff like that. These days kids have a busier planned schedule than our president.

Not that that's hard. ;)

19. I loved it
we had a hill in the backyard and our street went uphill. We used to all pile in a wagon and start at the top of the hill and fly down the street, always crashing into the curb - sending us flying in all directions. In the winter, we'd use sleds.

We roller skated, played dodgeball (street was a dead end) and basketball. We had the best time. I remember hearing the bells and whistles our mothers used to call us in for the night. I always had to catch a firefly or two on the way in. (My mother hated bugs in the house.)

Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

24. Oh wow, do I remember doing that!
My elementary school had the perfect hill for it, too.

Also, in the fall when the leaves were all dried up, you could sit on a piece of cardboard and slide down on the leaves.

Great fun!
Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

25. We have a hill in our backyard...
I read this thread, went outside, and rolled down the hill. It was great, until I rolled into the pile of mulch left behind by the guys that got rid of the tree behind the garage the other day.

You're right, though. Kids today don't enjoy the simple things any more. I'm only 22, but I remember when playgrounds were made out of metal and wood, not this bullshit plastic. The slide was two stories high and made of metal. When you sat down on it in the summer, it was so hot your skin sizzled. You slid down, then climbed back up anyway.

The swings were rough plastic that chaffed, and the chains that connected them to the set were hard metal, not covered with plastic. You'd pinch your fingers and jump off, landing on the grass if you were lucky. And we loved it.

We had wood chips or concrete beneath everything, not this soft gravel crap.

I'm convinced this change in playground equipment is directly affecting the youth of today. They're becoming soft and wimpy. And the music they listen to... *trails off into incomprehensible muttering*

...only took this site a week :P

It's really upsetting, though, especially since I can't use a swing set anymore... head injury two years ago. Can't handle the motion anymore...

I really miss that big metal slide now...

29. Yes! We had a pretty good hill in our backyard -
We could roll down it in the summer and sled down it in the winter. It was something of an obstacle course with a dozen or so apple trees, but great fun.

Plus my friend lived on a dead end with a high wall at the end. In the fall everyone would rake heir leaves into a huge pile, and we'd jump off the wall into the leaves.SO much fun!

40. That brought back a funny memory...
my three older brothers raked leaves into a big pile while I was at a friend's birthday party.
I came home with a tin jack-o-lantern full of candy for winning the sack-race.
My oldest brother cleverly demonstrated how fun it is to jump into a pile of leaves.
I tried it several times, until I realized what was happening to my candy!

Only the big rocks hurt if you were in a box rolling done the hill. We used to 'sled' in the summertime on flat sections of boxes too. I have the scars to prove it.

during a really shitty day at work. 'Is there a hill nearby I can just roll down?' I had to use my neighbor's hill as a kid because ours had crown vetch on it, my dad didn't want to mow it so they planted stuff.

We had to sharpen the ends of twigs and grind our backs into them until the skin began to tear off...

AND WE LIKED IT!
