7. Given a choice
the caterpillar's might not choose to become butterflies. Yeah, we and butterflies themselves might think butterflies are more beautiful but the self is a selfish thing and being a caterpillar must seem perfectly nice and wonderful when you're a caterpillar and what assurances of continually consciousness and happiness do they have across that transition point between caterpillar and butterfly? That's quiet a leap of faith.

So butterflies put that little ethical conundrum out of their minds if they even have any memories of that previous incarnation. Sometimes the best mental defense if forgetfulness ;)
