Then use anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2 cup sugar. Just sugar to taste. But put it in the pitcher before you brew...the heat helps to dissolve the sugar. Good stuff... Duckie

2. Use light corn syrup instead of sugar. |
|
You can add it after it's cold and it doesn't sour as quickly.

3. Sugar doesn't dissolve well either... |
|
...either make a simple syrup out of equal parts sugar and water, brought to a boil and cooled, or use corn syrup.

we use as much as 2.5 cups of sugar in a gallon. Pour your hot boiling tea over the sugar and stir it until it is dissolved. Then fill the pitcher the rest of the way with cold water, stirring all the way.
But that's if you like it REALLY sweet. Like, if you ran out of syrup, you could pour it on your pancakes.

5. do you have an iced tea maker? |
|
like a coffee maker?
If you do, pour 1/3 cup of sugar over the ice before hitting the "brew" button. That's how Mrs. V., a southerner, makes it. Perfect every time.

6. For every quart of tea, |
|
use 3 tea bags, steep in water that has actually been at a rolling boil. Add in 1/2 cup of honey. I like Tupelo, but you can use whatever is on hand. I like to add a Tablespoon each of lemon, lime and orange juice, fresh.
you can make sweet green tea, by substituting a strong green tea (try it with 1 mint tea bag).

7. I always brew the tea, then add the sugar. |
|
If it gets too cool before i get around to adding the sugar, I make a simple syrup. Then I add lemon juice or lime juice.

8. Sweet tea: the official house wine of the South |
|
Put 6-8 teabags in a glass one gallon jug and set it in the sun. If you're not getting enough sun, you can use hot tap water - not boiling water, it makes it bitter. Let it steep until you get the color you desire While it's still warm, remove the bags and add sugar to taste. We use one cup of sugar to one gallon of tea. Chill it in the fridge or have it over ice if you can't wait.
