but Jason Leopold (from, at the time, Truthout.org) called a big move on Rove some time ago.

Both he and DUer and fellow Truthout(er) Will Pitt took shit (and still take shit to this day) over that.

I don't think they hung their asses out for it as much as their asses got hung out for it by others. It's Rove FFS.

I'm not comparing one to the other, nor do I want to detract from what's possible, but I don't put any iron-clad thing past the "improvement process" that the GOP has.

For the record, I respect Leopold, Pitt and Truthout. Breaking shit against Rove would be like me taking on ConsumerFreedom.
