Any suggestions on how to handle a job interview the day after being fired? |
|
My friend will either be fired or asked to resign today because he was not well-suited for the position and couldn't keep up with his duties. Tomorrow he is interviewing for a position that looks like a better fit for him. How would you handle questions about your previous job?

1. How long was he at the job that's letting him go? Is it on his resume? |
|
Depending on the length, it may be best to leave it off entirely?

2. He's been there about a year so I think he will have to include it. |
|
He seemed to be okay there for a while so I'm not sure if they added more duties recently or if recent stress in his personal life is the problem.

3. Honestly and directly. |
|
"It was not a good fit for me."
He never felt at home in his duties and that is a directly contributing factor to the job search that produced this interview.

Then he can just say it was a bad fit and he decided some time ago to move on, hence the job application that lead to the interview, but he has now left the company so as to concentrate all his efforts on finding a new job.
