But someone shot one of my ferals and shattered her humerus. We had her put down last week. The grief is unrelenting.

If you've already commented on this, don't reply. I'm not looking for more "aw poor berthas." I just - christ, she's on my mind, and i can't get over this FUCKING CRUELTY.

I do cat rescue myself, and the cruelty that humans can inflict on helpless animals never ceases to amaze and sicken me. How can some idiots simply want to inflict pain on something for no reason whatsoever? Just to get their jollies!

It's hard to loose one, especially when you are trying your damnedest to save them.

And to grieve over a loss is perfectly normal and real. I always tell my friends that the day I stop crying when I lose one is the day that I need to hang up my pet taxis.

I can't offer any great comfort except to say that people who try to do positive things must continue to do those positive things. The animals depend on us.

I wish you well and I wish you peace. And I hope karma bites (in a very big way) the ass of the person who harmed your feral.

2. You know Bertha, and this comes from another animal rescue person...

some people, see, they just suck. Their job on this earth is to be one big example of what decent people hope and pray their kids don't turn out like. People that abuse animals are weak little cowards.

I hope you take solace in knowing that at least that cat had you so she didn't suffer needlessly in the woods, uncared for, with nobody to end her misery for her. She was loved and had an "owner" which is so much better than so many experience.

3. The kittens whose photos I posted yesterday were born of a feral

that picked us to help her have those kittens. Of the six kittens she had, we kept two and gave the rest to trusted people. After we gave away the four kittens, she went into heat again and started attacking the remaining two kittens and went after my 2 year old daughter, even after she was no longer in heat, she still attacked her kittens, refused to use the litter box and hissed at the humans in the house, so, we figured she needed to go back out. We had her spayed and vaccinated and let her back out. We haven't seen her in about six weeks, I don't know what happened to her......

It's tough when you don't keep them inside with you....but, sometimes you can't.

That's the best for her, believe me. You were wonderful to foster her litter. I think that animals just know where to go to get the care they need. I'm glad she chose you.
