Guess who's a Democrat? Toby Kieth! |
|
Yep....just read it in Time Mag...he identifies himself as "A Very Conservative Democrat" and it also says something about him having "serious reservations against the war in Iraq."
WTF?????

He's a crackpot in that respect, but at least he's waking up about Iraq. So there is hope.

10. He realized Bush screwed him |
|
I think he was a true believer back around the time the boot-in-your-ass song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" was released.
Most country singers are Republicans. They believe the president is looking out for the nation. So when Bush got on TV and start talking about a million pounds of chemical warfare agents, 38,000 litres of anthrax and UAVs that can hit New York, he believed him.
The guy doesn't have the defense background to think, "hang on, a UAV that can fly non-stop from Baghdad to New York City and back; did they make it out of a B-52?"
So now the truth is out: that everything the Bush administration said about Iraq, except that Saddam Hussein is crazier than a shithouse rat, was total fabrication. Now Toby Keith knows the Republican Party is damaging America in ways the Democrats can't even fathom. Hence, he's changed from being a Republican to being a "very conservative Democrat." Someone who's slightly to the left of Zell Miller.
It's a positive development, anyway.

blindly. His father was a vet. That's how he was raised. Why can't we just be glad that he's having doubts and just get on with it? He's not a horrible guy. He's not a great guy. Why do we even care? He's a country musician for God's sake. Duckie

he was on the bill maher show. proclaimed himself to be a "proud democrat" and had the audacity to make statements like "bush is genuine" and how great he is. apparently he was invited to the white house and during his visit, he came to these conclusions.

Though I haven't agreed with most of the ideas you've espoused, I certainly welcome you. We welcome conservative Democrats at our big table, and though we'll surely disagree on things, let's sit down and talk about the future of our country. Vote Democratic this year, and help this country achieve its potential!

I don't give a damn what he said in his interview with Dan Rather or or to anyone else. If he ever apologizes for what he said and did to the Dixie Chicks last year, which I believe will happen when swine fly, then maybe I'll be able to bring myself to listen to his xenophobic music. He took a page out of Saxby Chambliss' playbook on that one. Conservative Democrat my ass, this guy is all about the money.
As for his Dad being a vet, mine was also.He enlisted during 1942 when he didn't have to, he a had a job with US Steel and he couldn't be drafted. If my father was alive today, he'd abhore "Box of Rocks" aka Chimpy as much as I do and completely disregard the opinions of anyone who supported him.

39. Toby Keith has apparently had reservations about Iraq for a while now. |
|
Keith took a long pause to consider his words, and then added: "I was for Afghanistan, 100%. We got struck and the Taliban needed to be exterminated, but this war here, in Iraq, I didn't necessarily have it all worked out. It didn't work out for me. I know a tyrant is gone and all of that, but whether it was our duty to go do that, well, I haven't figured that out."
