Okay. Should I or should I not go and see "The Passion"?
So far, I'm not encouraged to do so. I loathe violence. And, I hate
the distortion of biblical accuracy.

Plus, I don't care for emotional 'editorialising' in the audience.

What should I do?

2. Only if you can sneak in without paying
Or buy a ticket to another movie in a multi-plex then see passion instead.

I have no problem seeing this movie - I'd hate to see another penny go to Mel

6. Good idea. Except I don't usually "sneak in without paying."
And, under the circumstances, I'd really feel like a hypocrite watching Jesus if I stole my admission! I'd probably be banished to hell forever.

But, I agree, Mel is going to make a TON of money off this film. Maybe that's why the Pope and the Vatican (allegedly) said regarding an earlier screening of the film, "That's the way it was."

3. Rent Gigli. It is relatively free of both violence and biblical inaccuracy

don't listen to the critics. You'll laugh your ass off.

5. What are the reasons FOR seeing the movie.
That might help in a cost-benefit analysis.

7. Curiosity more than anything.
Is this film as good / bad as it's made out to be.

9. Anything else?
So far costs outweigh benefits, it seems to me. Any reason why you have to see it now in a theater and not wait till it comes out on DVD?

10. No urgency here. I could wait until it comes out on DVD.
Even if it isn't released until Christmas...well, certainly, I could wait until then.

Thanks, BurtWorm!

11. My pleasure!
Why drag yourself to something you don't really need to see? I would have encouraged you to go if I'd have seen more desire to on your part.

:hi:

13. SEE IT!
I saw the movie yesterday and I thought it was fantastic. The movie stays absolutely true to the gospels and while yes it is violent, I think that is the point. Mel Gibson is trying to show us what Jesus experienced for the salvation of humanity. It is meant to give people a better understanding and to open up our hearts. People have a hard time accepting that one individual would go through so much and expect nothing in return. Well Jesus did and the truth be known, he was in all likelyhood treated much worse than what the movie portrayed, even though what was shown was horrific.

15. it's not true to the gospels...
any human would have died from blood loss, and therefore couldn't have been treated worse (and Jesus was supposed to be fully human) -- without getting into the fiction - non-fiction debate over christian mythology, you're just wrong

17. Be patient. Don't give the whackos money. If you're curious...
...wait til it's cheap to rent, or better yet, get it off Kazaa or something. You may also wait until a fundy coworker buys it on DVD and ask if you can borrow it.

18. Resist temptation - Don't go see it
It's simple for me... I don't spend $8 on a movie anyways.
