damn i hate my iphone
it chews up the battery, it hangs up, and wont go to the menu screen, and now i can't even turn it off to get unhung.
did a restore yesterday, as recommended by the geniuses, and it seems even more hosed up.
the software updates are timing out.
egad.
and that's just the things that don't work like they are supposed to. the thing is constantly calling people because i barely touched the screen. when i want to call, though, it is poke, poke, poke, poke, ok, you can call now.
what a piece of shit. i am so sorry i bought this phone.

1. Mine works fine
are you plugging it into a mac or a windows machine?

additionally, the "geniuses" at the apple store, aren't. infact they are quite clueless.

If you need help I would be happy to help you out.

and the geniuses aren't, you are correct. they do know more than i do, but by no means do they know anything like everything.
will say, tho, that the one to one training is a fantastic deal.

i think the battery thing is a little better. and i just did the new update. but jeez. if it doesn't get straight this time, i am taking it back.

8. Are you doing a full restore and then restoring your contacts and stuff in iTunes? If something is
jacked up in the backup, restoring it afer doing a full restore won't do you any good. After your restore, do the setup as new phone in iTunes. That should help. Do you have the latest software, 2.0.2? There's supposed to be a new firmware today, so updating to that might help too.

10. did the full restore yesterday, and did the new version today
the battery made it through the night. i think today was just software not firmware, but i could be wrong. doing a million things at once today.

14. Here's a picture walk through on optimizing the settings to help with battery life.
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 06:59 PM by Nickster
I use most of these settings, just throwing out some ideas that might help.

http://blog.guykawasaki.com/2008/08/the-art-of-ipho.html

So when you did the software restore, the very first time you hooked up the USB cable and iTunes popped up, did you set up the phone as a new phone, or did you restore a previous backup file? If that backup file is corrupted, it will screw up the rest of your software even though you did a full software restore.

I hope I'm not confusing you, you did a software restore to 2.1, but after that iTunes will ask you to set up the phone, Outlook, contacts, etc. Did you set it up like it was a brand new phone?

17. no, i'm pretty geeky. not confused.
didn't think about it the way you are describing it, but did do a full wipe, and had to re-sync contacts, tunes, etc. from the computer. did go through things like manual push and all that to keep the battery going. it wasn't dropping all the way into stand-by, tho. i think it is better, since it went all night and still had most of a charge this morning.

actually, i don't hate it this much every day. just particularly annoyed, as i will be away for a few days and will need it.

9. I am cell phree.
Being a disciple of Ludd as I am, I have not ever owned a cell phone. I look at the cell phone as the prime contributor to the breakdown of interpersonal face-to-face communication in this country. However, it seems that I am at least gathering up a series of reasons that it might not be such a bad idea to have one around, and may break down and get one.

However, you could not PAY me to get one of Apple's Swiss Army Phones, what with all of the trouble people are having. Having to deal with AT+T is a strike against as well.

15. i have one big reason for a cell phone- kids
i have 5 kids, and having a phone allowed me to leave the house without worry at least 5 years earlier than i would have otherwise.
now days, it is starting to seem like a ball and chain, tho.

20. My folks had four kids.
My dad has 8 siblings.

Yet somehow they managed without cells. Wondering where the worry comes from?
