Shakira - I admit I underestimated her
Shakira - Hay Amores (Love in the Time of Cholera)

http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1243698213/bclid716031989/bctid1395583249

Oh my love! I’d do anything for you
to have you for a second, far away from the world
and close to me
Oh my love! Just like the Magdalena river
which merges into the sea sands,
I want to be one with you.

Some loves become resistant to destruction,
like fine wines that improves with age,
the way my feelings for you grow ever stronger

There are loves that wait for winter and then bloom
and in autumn evenings turn evergreen,
just like the love I feel for you.

Oh my love! Don’t forget the sea,
which has seen me crying in the night
over the memories I have of you
Oh my love! Don’t forget the day
which separated your life
from this life that was my destiny to live

Some loves become resistant to destruction,
like fine wines that improves with age,
the way my feelings for you grow ever stronger

There are loves that wait for winter and then bloom
and in autumn evenings turn evergreen,
just like the love I feel for you.

2. Her hips don't lie.
Actually, I really like Shakira, and not for her shimmy.

3. This time, I was truly impressed
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 09:18 PM by Xipe Totec
I know she's the... (ahem)... butt of a lot of jokes...

But her rendition of this song was truly superb.

She touched me, and I did not expect it.

5. I admit I don't know the song,
but she seems to hit on a range of emotions in her music and much of the time, she does very well. Hey, even my ultra-sophisticated teenage daughter likes Shakira. She must have some merit.

4. Atleast you learned your lesson
Just kidding, I understand. She is a much better talent then Britney and the others she is usually lumped with. I'm a fan of hers.

7. No, you're absolutely right
I judged her merely by her stage name: chaquira in Castillian is a sequin; merely a shiny bauble...

Her voice has power, and her command of the language is not superficial.

9. You know more than I do
All I know is she is half arabic and half south american (I once knew the specific countries but I forgot overtime, I believe Lebannon is one of them) and she has released many songs in languages I can't comprehend. She is very talented in many ways but I had no idea the reason behind her stage name.

10. Castillian is what most people commonly know as Spanish
But it is just one of the dialects of Spain; the most common, for sure.

Galician, Asturian, Leones, Catalan, and Basque are others.

In Mexico, to speak Castillian , means to make sense.

Spanish (Castillian), by the way, is half Arabic. The Moors were in Spain for over 1,000 years.

in Castillian, hopefully is: Ojala (Oj Allah) Allah willing...

11. I definitely want to see that movie
I read the novel and it seems the movie does it justice.

12. Honestly, no movie could do the book justice.
But it casts a spell of its own.

It could just be Javier, Xipe Totec!
