Two things annoying about online feedback forms |
|
I hate it when a website helpfully offers an online form for submitting feedback but they do the following:
1. They make arbitrary and irrelevant fields mandatory, without which you can't submit the form. Why, for instance, does brand-x.com need my home number and my cell number and my address when I'm just trying to tell them that their in-page hyperlinks are hard to find?
2. When they have a section for "additional comments" allowing X number of characters, but they don't give you a character countdown, and when you post in excess of that number, they truncate the message without showing you what was cut off.
Who designs these things? And why bother?

1. I expect the answer to (1) is |
|
so they can either keep your email address and number to spam you themselves or, worse, so they can sell your details to someone else who wants to spam you.

4. Yeah, that's probably right |
|
I mean, I can see why they might want an email address so that (nominally) they can send a "thank you for your input" response, but my cell #? What if I don't have one? Or want to give it?
Bastards!

5. Spam text messages? Telephone marketers? |
|
It could even be a genuine desire to have your details so they can call you back about your feedback... though that is probably the least likely explanation.

6. God! Why do people suck so bad! |
|
All I want to do is tell them that "dark blue links on a black background do not maximize user-friendliness."

9. I always say I live at |
|
666 Hellno lane Bumfukt, EG NOYB
My phone number is always (666)555-1234
It doesn't always work though. Apparently, there are some forms that can detect a 666 or Bumfukt address and see right through it. That's when I have to get crafty and give them a NYC zip code and telling them I live on Fuckyou Street. That one usually gets me through it like a charm.
