Question: Card game in the movie, Stand By Me?
Early in the movie, the kids are playing cards in their tree house. There's a small piece of dialog:

Chris: I knock.
Teddy: Shit!
Chris: Twenty-nine.
Teddy: Twenty-two.
Gordie: Piss up a rope! (throws his cards down)
Teddy: Gordie's out! Ol' Gordie just bit the bag and stepped out the door!
Chris: Come on, man, deal.
Teddy: I knock.
Chris: You four-eyed pile of shit!
Teddy: The pile of shit has a thousand eyes! What!? What's so funny? Come on. I've got thirty. What've you got?
Chris: Sixteen.

I know most every form of poker. My parents made me learn bridge and pinochle. My grandfather taught me cribbage but I'm dammed if I know what the kids are playing.

Anyone know if it's a real game or something made up?

5. The card game is called 31 or scat 31..
My brothers, sisters and I used to play it a lot when we were younger. I haven't played that in many moons.

used to play that with my family. fun game.

sometimes i would try to knock right away just to see the reactions (providing i had a decent number of points) rather than going for 31.

11. Are all the cards hidden from other players?

I've played a gambling game called "five and half, twenty-one" where the cards are dealt like stud (one hole card), but players can pass on taking a card. Cards are worth their point value with aces being worth one or eleven and face cards are 1/2 a point. You play and bet until everyone has either folded or passed on a card. The pot is split hi/lo.

Fun game, especially when you are dealt five and a half.

12. 3 cards to each player, the player sees and holds his/her own cards
you have to draw each time, no passing.

:hi:
