I took my new Digital SLR to the Fair. (PICS)
I finally got my new camera, and am starting to get the hang of it. After years with a manual, I made the switch. These shots were made with my Nikon D80.

This camera is fantastic! Thanks to all how gave me advice before I bought it!

1. Nice shots
I am considering purchasing a D80 myself and I just noticed they are on sale this week at the local camera shop complete with a really awesome lens. I may just go pick it up.

Is it easy to use in reality (ie: not the camera store?)

3. I find it very user friendly.
Most of the buttons and knobs are on the outside, rather than on a menu screen, it allows for easy transition from settings.

You can go anywhere from fully automatic to fully manual, depending on your shooting needs. The guide is pretty good that comes with it. I got a book at Barnes and Noble that is a D80 guide, and it was more informative.

I haven't found any limitations on it, so far. With the VR lenses, you can shoot nearly a full second shutter speed without a tripod!

5. Do you have the VR lens?
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 09:40 AM by jasonc
I was wondering if that was just a marketing gimmick.

7. Yes, in fact I think they are switching to VR completely.
It is impressive. It really lightens the load, unless I am doing long exposures, I don't even take my tripod anymore. I can shoot in very low light and get nice shots. I like pictures that are a little underexposed, anyway.

The VR lenses actually have a little gyroscope motor to counter your movement. It is very cool.

2. Those are cool pictures!
I'm so jealous! I want one of those cameras badly. We keep putting it off.

4. Thank you!
It has taken me about 3 weeks to learn the camera and get it to do what I would do with a film camera. But, now I find no limits.

It was worth the wait for me. It took me some time to save the money.

14. Wow...
They're all great! The first and last are my favorites. The first is a riot and the last tells a great story. :)

I'm a sucker for black and white and hope to someday make the switch. I have an old Pentax I keep loaded with black and white...

16. I used a Pentax K1000 for the past 2 or 3 years.
I still love that camera. B&W is my choice, except when I am shooting blooms or sunsets. With my old manual, I would usually have two or three rolls going at once, loading, snapping, rewinding, unloading, switching.....

The versitlity on the digital is what finally sold me.

18. I'm clueless when it comes to digital SLRs
The chances of my finding a digital SLR with a Pentax mount are probably not good, right? I hate that I have all these lenses and two camera bodies. I know I need to come into the 20th century, but...

19. My lenses were to old to match up.
I just have the starter kit Vibration Reduction(VR) lens for my digital. I am going to get a zoom for Chirstmas, maybe. And go from tere.

I was told that some lenses would work, but I don't have the answer to that.

20. I figured as much
my lenses are at least 15-20 years old.

The VR is interesting. I've developed some shaking in my hands over the last couple of years. That would have saved quite a few photos. :)

28. I love the Pentax K1000!

I'm using a borrowed digital now until I can afford to buy an SLR. I'm tempted to go back to my old Pentax,
despite the annoyance of film. That camera was like a part of my hand.

I really like the color values. It looks like digital has caught up with film. Have fun with your camera, and post more pictures please.

I held off on the digital until I could afford one that didn't compromise what I liked to do.
