5. I was just wondering about it. Seems it wouldn't be that big a deal, as long |
|
as you'd had your tetanus shot.

7. Was she hungry and mistook you for fud? How long was she at the time? |
|
I confess that I've never heard of an aggressive captive bred Burmese.

10. I was putting her rat in with her |
|
She refused to eat dead/frozen, so she got live fed. She was very hungry because the minute the rat and my hand were in her tank, WHAM! She struck. This was right after I got her and her condition was still poor (very small for her age, she was about 14 months old when I got her), I rescued her from a friends brother who'd bought her and pretty much completely neglected her.
She was not aggressive normally, but she was just getting ready to shed at the time so her eyes were clouded over and that combined with being hungry was enough. She was 6 1/2 feet long at the time. I miss her, she was so beautiful. My mom started to hyperventilate anytime she even THOUGHT about there being a snake in the house, so after 2 years of her freaking out I placed Howie (friends brother named her, I got her sexed when I took her to the vet) with our local herpetological society.

11. I figured it was feeding related. But you had to muck with LIVE??? |
|
That's a hassle. And is more expensive, too. x(
Interesting that she even wanted to eat in pre-shed-- I wouldn't even bother to try to feed mine, lest whatever I offered go wasted due to lack of interest.
Burmese get so large so fast-- I stuck with boa constrictors and King snakes. :hi:

15. She was still very underweight at the time |
|
When I got her, she was pretty much starving, having previously only been fed small mice, and not nearly enough (hence her small size at her age). I had her on a pretty frequent feeding schedule, and yes, live feeding was a *huge* pain. Burmese tend to not have feeding difficulties, in fact, pet Burmese are often obese because they'll eat whenever they're fed, hungry or not, but she just wouldn't eat dead, even if I shook it around wih tongs and such! It took a while to get her back to good health, and, when I got rid of her at 3 1/2 years old, she was almost 8 feet, still too small for her age in my book. If my mom wasn't so terrified of snakes (I was in high school at the time), I have no doubt she'd still be with me, I loved having her.
I'm researching a good snake (would love a burm, but size is a factor, especially with a kid and small animals in the house) to have, Dropkid loves snakes and they are very interesting pets to have.

I would catch them as a kid, and have owned them as "pets," too. Nothing serious, though.

8. Yup, by my two boa constrictors when my hand |
|
got between them and the rats at feeding time. Their teeth are razor sharp.

When I was a kid, we would have contests to see how many (fill in the blank) you could catch.
But the worst was the one time I took my kids fishing, and a three foot long rat snake went for the bait on my daughters hook.
I tried mightily to get the hook out of his mouth without getting nailed, but failed. Miserably.
But I did get it out, and away he went, and left me bleeding.
But, besides smarting a bit, and some hydrogen peroxide from the first-aid kit, everything was ok.
