When turkeys attack...
This is funny, but not.

This morning went to walk to another building on campus and there's a turkey in the courtyard. Not normally a big deal because we've seen him around before.

Today, he's riled at something. I watched him stalk 3 different people (all the way to the entrances of buildings) in a span of 8 or 9 minutes.

I called our Operations people, but I guess they (and campus police and campus security) cannot do anything because apparently, the turkey is a protected critter.

So, how do you scare him away w/o provoking him further?

4. My husband was once attacked by a flock of wild turkeys
He was a kid and was riding his bike when they surrounded him and kept pecking at him. Freaked him right out.

Birds can be pretty rowdy.

5. Run at him and make a lot of noise.
That usually works for hunters when they want to scatter turkeys and break up a flock. He'll run away, but he will come back eventually.

I found a website for you, 'cus i'm geeky like that.

It says they don't fight for territory, but t
hey fight among each other for status and dominance.

10. You can sing this song to him...
(from 3rd grade):

A turkey sat on a barnyard fence
And he sang this sad, sad tune,
"Thanksgiving Day is coming gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble
And I know I will be eaten so-oo-oo-oo-on.

Gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble
I don't like Thanksgiving Day!
Gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble
So I think I will run away!"

11. loud noises are best.
But it sounds like this turkey feels like this building is his territory, which as fall is often rutting season may explain the extra aggressive behavior.
From what I hear wild turkeys are very smart and VERY bold birds..In fact I was driving down a country road when I saw this big bird standing in the middle. It was a turkey. It looked at my car and then almost casually ran up the hill....
