7. Ugh. You're right on that.
Worst part is, a few years ago he briefly switched from writing second-rate pop music to writing third-rate classical music.

He thinks he's Bruce Springsteen, when in reality he's just Billy Joel.

45. Would somebody please tell me what's wrong with Billy Joel?
It can't be the lyrics, because he's refreshingly literate. I love the music. I'm not enough of a music snob to dislike him.

46. That would be like trying to explain why eating vomit is disgusting.
I find his lyrics to be frequently cheesy, the music can often just sound horrible, and the whole think comes together like some kind of gigantic turd fest.

I actually feel discomfort when hearing the song "Keeping the Faith" It's just soooooo awful.

56. Then you have to see some talent in those lyrics.
Sometimes we dislike things because it's unfashionable to like them. If you took another look at the lyrics of his songs, you just might find something you like.

Issues of sophistication can be verbalized. My criticism is that it just has an inherent badness which can't be explained.

When I was growing up, girls went for folk-rock music, and boys went for heavy metal music. I think this might be a more comtemporary example of that.

Saw them in a club here in Mpls just after Plastic Letters came out in 78. Deb was at the peak of her considerable lusciousness. She and Chris were chatting with fans in the back bar before the show and they seemed nice. Tickets were six bux. Those were the days, indeed.

Actually dang near anything by Jackson Browne! :)

ALIVE IN THE WORLD
I want to live in the world, not inside my head
I want to live in the world, I want to stand and be counted
With the hopeful and the willing
With the open and the strong
With the voices in the darkness
Fashioning daylight out of song
And the millions of lovers
Alive in the world

I want to live in the world, not behind some wall
I want to live in the world, where I will hear if another voice should call
To the prisoner inside me
To the captive of my doubt
Who among his fantasies harbors the dream of breaking out
And taking his chances
Alive in the world

To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world
To open my eyes and finally arrive in the world

With its beauty and its cruelty
With its heartbreak and its joy
With it constantly giving birth to life and to forces that destroy
And the infinite power of change
Alive in the world

To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world
To open my eyes and finally arrive in the world
To open my eyes and wake up alive in the world
To open my eyes and finally arrive in the world
