"Hitch-Hiker's Guide" sequel authorised by Douglas Adams' widow
About 16 million copies of the books have been sold worldwide, but fans were left disappointed when it seemed as though Adams' early death ended the series with all the main characters seemingly meeting a grizzly end.

Adams himself said: "I suspect at some point in the future I will write a sixth Hitchhiker book…I would love to finish Hitchhiker on a slightly more upbeat note.

"Five seems to be a wrong kind of number, six is a better kind of number."

Now it seems Adams' wish has come true. Children's author Eoin Colfer has been chosen to write the sixth of the series by Adams' widow Jane Belson. He writes of his joy at being able to continue the series with the new book And Another Thing.

1. I like this line:
Imagine if Messrs Hawking and Fry were locked in a room with the entire cast of Monty Python and forced to write a book which would subsequently be edited by Pink Floyd, then the result would need a lot of work before it could be cut from Douglas Adams' first draft.

You know, maybe this can work. I thought the series was getting a little mundane towards the end...maybe a jolt of fresh blood is just what this sort of thing needs. Maybe.

2. Two words: AWE. SOME.
Admittedly, I've never read any of Mr. Colfer's stuff, but if Adams' widow says he's okay, that's good enough for me.

3. I like Colfer's books
I have listened to a few of his books on CD from the Artemis Fowl (sp?) series and liked them.
However I think labeling him a children author is misleading, his books would appeal to the same crowd as the Harry Potter books.

4. I'm not sure about this one. "Mostly Harmless" sucked.
Especially after the wonderful "So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish."

I hope they improve on the ending of "MH".
