Bal'mer Ravens RB Lewis's drug charges (11 POUNDS of cocaine)
That's WEIGHT!

ATLANTA, United States (AFP) - Jamal Lewis, who last season had the second-best single-season rushing total in National Football League history, was indicted by a federal grand jury on drug conspiracy charges

The Pro Bowl running back of the Baltimore Ravens (news) is accused of conspiring to distribute cocaine in June and July 2000 and will surrender to authorities here Thursday, US attorney William S. Duffey announced.

The indictment charges Lewis with one count of conspiracy to intentionally possess with the intent to distribute cocaine. A second count charges Lewis with using a cell phone to carry out the conspiracy.

"This involved at least 5 kilograms of a mixture of a substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine," Duffey said after announcing the indictment.

11. Most definitely not for personal use.
Unless you just light a bale on fire and put it in your fireplace.

14. 213 pounds?
I had a roommate in college who could go through 213 pounds of marijuana in an afternoon.

At least it seemed that way.

Cough.

3. Damn! That's like a cartel's worth!
He could keep a village in Peru economically afloat for three years with the proceeds from selling that shit...

What I wonder is this: don't pro sports guys make heaps of moolah? Like more than they'll ever need? So why get into some stupid deal like selling blow on the side? I mean, I BET you could feed your family on what you make as a proballer....

Sounds like Lewis is infected with Arbusto Syndrome: the uncontrollable need to have both cocaine and scads of ill-gotten money around him at all times..

7. Two things hit my mind when I heard this on the radio
1.Nothing is promised to rookies (I doubt that he had a guaranteed contract as a RB) so maybe with his signing bonus he wanted to make one big score and be set up regardless of what happened on the field.

2.Gangs-I have read where many guys who came from "the hood" or often approached (nice way of putting it) by the gang that they either were in (if only to NOT be without cover) or were given a pass because of their chance to make the bigs and the gang wants them to do something for them and they suddenly have all this money.

I dunno of course he is innocent until proven guilty but the wording of this story strikes me as odd. "Detectable amounts" sounds like it might be so cut that it technically isn't really considered cocaine by the law anymore. Like I said I dunno.
