3. Kinda depends on your point of reference.
But if I could only take one with me to a desert island, I think I'd go with The Allman Brothers At Fillmore East.

That has got to be one of the very best LPs of all time. We wore out one vinyl completely then bought a second. Back in the day, you know.

7. The U.S. (pictured) edition of that album?
Just curious, since the original U.K. album the Beatles released is rather different.

I'm not sure what I'd pick as overall greatest album -- it might be something quite obscure. In terms of Beatles albums, I'd have to go with Sgt. Pepper - Revolver - Rubber Soul (all U.K. versions), in that order.

12. For my part, it's....
For my part, it's CTA. Perfect blend of a great horn section, the best lead guitarist in the universe, and a kick-ass percussion section. Composition was king, and the industry's 3:15 rule was broken with impunity. Nice to know that there were still musicians around (musician-- someone who can, at the very least, read and write music).

32. yes, great stuff
I was turned on to them by my big sister when I was young. They influenced me as a musician in ways that I am still discovering 35 years later.

I saw an interview with Levon Helm a while back and he was explaining the "Music From Big Pink" and "The Band" albums. He said that the two albums were conceived as one body of work, so that basically, "The Band" album was a continuation from where Big Pink left off, like oone big album.

Enjoy! :hi:

35. It's too hard to pick one. I could list tons that depending on my mood I would place first.
Mr Bungle - Disco Volante
Skinny Puppy - Just about anything
Kraftwerk - Just about anything
Fantomas - Just about anything
Henry Mancini - Music from Peter Gunn
Psilodump - Never Heal
Amon Tobin - Lots of stuff from him
Portishead - Dummy
Scientific American - Strong for the Future
Shinichi Atobe - Red Lines
Hurdy Gurdy - Prototyp

I could go on. There is just so much music where I can't help but think 'god damn this shit is original/amazing/unreal/insane/mesmerizing/completely fucking inhumane, I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!111!eleveNTY!!!'.

I can't pick one. Hell, I can't pick ten.

37. ...like anyone can even know that.

:P

But, if I had to pick something, it's this.

Uncle Jim's Superstars of Greenwich Meantime

This sums it up rather nicely..

At the risk of overstating its importance, "Superstars of Greenwich Meantime" has a scope that somehow encompasses everything in the world through an endless series of insults. In a way, it's the perfect American recording. No one is safe from his venomous tongue, not even Uncle Jim himself. As the climactic title track finds Uncle Jim attacking himself, a passage begins about traveling to a galaxy where "there exists no markets, no trading, no currency. The dimension where value is meaningless and time stands still." "Superstars of Greenwich Meantime" is the clearest, most concise, and beautifully composed work I've heard from the Sun City Girls. It is experimental art, poetry, social critique, music; it's everything and it's fucking pissed at you.

"True is the scent which mimics organic drones, of fact in flesh and blood. If true love and all of its belongings were subservient to the needs of man then bliss would be all that is, was, what will always be. But true love has never served man except as shadow, crossover dimension of illusion. An intersection of possibility as executioner of orgasmic continuance. As an evil time creeps desperate within igniting emotional need ablaze as wildfire much too gargantuous to contain. Prove me wrong and I will love you truly."

41. New York Dolls (self titled)
This band and record fit my taste in music to a T. I love golden age rock-n-roll and also punk rock. The golden age didn't quite have the ferocity of punk, and punk almost completely lost that magical golden age vibe. New York Dolls had it all.
