Is Daniel Craig a better Bond than Connery?
I just watched Casino Royale for the millionth time, and on the basis of one film alone, I think Craig has trounced Connery. And the upcoming Quantum of Solace will only reinforce this.

Any other blasphemers out there?

10. Actually I haven't seen any of Craig's, but I just wanted to see if I could type in a convincing
Connery accent. :P

18. same here, i will admit i'm not a huge fan of the Bond films but after seeing
Craig i'm really looking forward to the next one. Roger Moore turned me off and Pierce Brosnan, sorry he's always going to be Remington Steele to me, i didn't buy the transition for a minute.

5. They're very diffrent Bonds, so it's kind of hard for me to judge.
And not to take anything from Sean, but Daniel is by far the best looking Bond.

12. The hierarchy goes like this:
Connery
Brosnan
Dalton
Craig
Lazenby
Moore

Craig is essentially tied with Dalton at #3. He has the potential to move up.

23. Impossible to rank
Connery defined the character but Fleming hated him as Bond.
Craig and Dalton are probably the best actors.
Moore is a fine actor as well, but got stuck with comic book scripts with the exception of FYEO.
Lazenby was not an actor but brought a physicality to the part and had a terrific script.
Brosnan was a journeyman. Capable but didn't really add anything.

13. Casino Royal was more realist than the other Bond movies. So it is hard to compare.
I still think that Connery is the best bond evah!

19. Craig beats Connery for a number of reasons. Not least of which is that
blue terrycloth onesie Connery wore in "Goldfinger". Craig would never wear something like that. Plus the Connery Bond is so terribly dated.

21. I think he's getting to play a better Bond, story-wise speaking.
But in terms of pulling off the Bonds they were asked to pull off, I think they're about the same.

I prefer Craig's Bond, but not so much because of Craig - because of the writing and story-telling. It's a more real, visceral kind of Bond.

22. Could be
If The Quantum of Solace is done in the same style as Casino Royale, then Craig will edge out Connery. I liked the grittiness of it. But Connery will be a close second.

As for the others, I prefer to view them in an apples and oranges context. The Moore/Brosnan Bonds were entertaining, though a different lighter style. I finally saw Lazenby's go last year. Not bad, despite his stiffness. Dalton, I'll need to re-watch on widescreen.

24. Too early to tell, but then again, I think Connery is overrated anyway
He was basically phoning it in after Goldfinger.

My rankings:
1. Timothy Dalton
2. Connery (Dr. No through Goldfinger)
3. Daniel Craig (potentially to go higher)
4. Roger Moore
5. Connery (Thunderball onwards)
6. Pierce Brosnan, not really his fault, he had some lousy scripts

(Massive, yawning gap)

7. George Lazenby

26. Oh yeah
Even in his heyday, Connery would have croaked in the kind of ultra-physical work Craig pulled off impeccably. Craig was totally believable. I saw him in Layer Cake (a must!), and when I found out he was going to be the next Bond, I thought that was the coolest thing in history. :)

27. By the way, for 230 bucks you can recreate the opening scene of "Goldeneye".
Price doesn't include new pair of underwear.

28. Okay, I seem to be in the minority here, but I thought he was too short and everyone seemed to be
taller than he was, so this took away from the Bond mystique a bit for me. He is a good actor, but I am not totally convinced that I liked him as Bond. But the film was very well done.
