Family question for the lounge
I have a member of my immediate family who has serious financial issues right now and wants to move into my apartment, problem is my brother and I do not want this person living with us.

The person can be and was verbally abusive.
The person is a user, but he does work hard.
The person is messy.
The person is mildly crazy in several senses.
But this person is family and has been there a couple times when I've needed the person. I feel guilty about the situation, although this person did manage to blow 150,000 dollars in a year, which I highly contempt the person for.

This person has plenty of family where he lives and can live with those people, but he is embarrassed.

I am the only one who maintains regular contact with this person because this person does not maintain a relationship with very many.

I would let the person stay with me for a couple of days, but I know it is going to last months, likely, and I cannot afford to have this person living with me (plus the apt already 4 people in a goddamned 2 bdr apt), and I cannot muster the courage to tell the person no.

1. Just tell him you do not have room, sounds like 4 in a 2BR is more than plenty

2. Offer to help him find other accomodations...
Suggest other relatives, maybe even put in a good word. If you have another relative who is messy, they might be a good match.

It's too crowded there. You might even have city ordinances that won't allow more than 4 people to live in your apt.

3. "I really don't think that would be a good idea"
If pressed for a better explanation "we're already at the occupancy limit for our lease" which, with four in a 2 br, likely has the benefit of being true.
