As I pulled a black, mushy bunch of cilantro out of the frig today, I thought about buying some.

5. I've used them--they're good
You can wash and reuse them, too. The only hitch is that the fruit or veggies have to be DRY before you put them in one of the bags. But that's not too much of a problem for the stuff that otherwise would go bad fastest in our house--bananas, jalapenos, salad.

6. Thanks. Drying stuff shouldn't be a problem.
We do waste a lot of fresh herbs, which are expensive, and also lettuce, so I'm hoping these will help.

7. the greatest gadget I EVAH invested in was a Food Saver
...the vacuum packer that seals fruit and veggies in cannisters or plastic bags. I could never eat the healthy stuff I love without it.

I tried the Green Bags a few years ago, bringing them home from Europe before they were available here. They're okay, but the Food Saver allows me to chop up almost 2 weeks worth of fresh fruit, seal it in individual containers, and that's my lunch at work every day. Also, I make a huge salad and that lasts even longer.

It's pricey--about 120 dollars, unlike the Green bags which don't require such an investment. But I totally think it's worth it.

They really work. We've had basil stay fresh for a few weeks in it.
