The webcomic's creator dug up complete excerpts of the stuff she's discussing and put them on her forum for comparison. She's right on the money. THEY REALLY SPARKLE. (And the less said about the sex, the better.) :puke: :mad:

People, if you want good vampire novels, go pick up Barbara Hambly's "Those Who Hunt The Night" and "Traveling With The Dead" (bonus: "Dead" has some heavy, HEAVY criticism of the whole vampire romance deals so popular with bad authors), or George R.R. Martin's "Fevre Dream."

And let's face it, a former British Intelligence agent turned Oxford linguistics professor and his M.D. wife dealing with vampires shortly before WWI (Hambly), or a grouchy pre-Civil-War steamboat captain (Martin) are much more interesting characters by definition than little Miss Perfect Modern Bella.

And if you're joining me in disliking the whole "romantic vampire" shtick, you might enjoy some of Simon R. Green's books. (Blue Moon series, Nightside series) He shares the same view: "I've never understood why some people see leeches as romantic."

"The Man with the Golden Torc"

That was a whole lot of fun and silliness. Give it a try. I am waiting for the next in that series to hit paperback.

I tried the Nightside books. They were OK, but I did not connect with them as well I guess.

She tried to get me to read them until I responded as an article of faith that the only good Vampire is one with a stick in its chest.
