That's the title of the book I'm reading . Author, Tom Vanderbilt.
It's really very interesting. A lot of stuff about how traffic works and how people tend to drive and why all that doesn't work very well much of the time.
Today I learned about the "Los Gatos effect," named for a point on CA-17 (that I drive every day). It's a hill and the phenomenon occurs when drivers refuse to move from the passing lane to the slow lane even when other cars are pushing them and the slow lane is moving freely. :rofl:
Which I see every day. Oh, boy! My commute is famous! :P

I read a news feature recently about a Cal professor who is an expert on traffic engineering and from his office he can watch the I-80 logjams -- talk about a real life lab!
