I would like to rant about something... very quickly...
I think that trying to handle the complexities of life without the tools that most people acquire from their parents when they're young SUCKS. It's 10 times as hard to handle difficult situations when they arise, and it's 10 times as hard to figure out a solution.

But at least I have a wise husband on my side. At least I got THAT lucky.

Oh yeah...

1. I wholeheartedly agree.
Life doesn't come with an instruction manual, and when you can't get proper guidance from your parents it just compounds the stress of living. It's given me a high degree of self-reliance. But that's not always good either.

3. On the self-reliance thing...
I think that's when harm can really come to a person's life - when you don't know that you need to ask for help!

6. Oh yes.
That's one of life's many lessons I've learned the hard way. No man can be an island; not even me.

8. I'm so lucky that I have my husband in my life.
It took me awhile and a couple of shitty long-term relationships before I found him at age 29. Although he has ADD, and his own family is pretty screwed up, he is so wise, and best of all even-tempered. He wakes up happy every morning, and it takes A LOT to piss him off (he doesn't suffer fools very well). Every day I look to him for his wisdom and stability. He gives me the strength I've never really found from my parents who generally have had their heads buried in a hole in the ground, but they're too egotistical to admit how fucked up they are.

I might also have a a little daddy-complex, looking for approval from a paternal being, that I never got from my own dad who was/is emotionally distant and in denial for the most part. My husband is 14 years older than me. So he's father, older brother, best friend and lover all rolled into one.

And this post is in honor of my sweetie. Tomorrow is our 12th anniversary, and also marks the anniversary we met, 18 years ago (we lived together for a long time before getting the official papers).
