Tell me again about having pets lowers your blood pressure
So we're sitting watching a movie with both dogs asleep on the couch. Suddenly, Guinness stands up and starts shaking his head. Then he shakes it again. Then he scratches at his head. I get a flash light and check his ear - nothing. This goes on for several minutes with him getting more and more frantic. Of course, it's late on a Saturday night, so I don't want to call the vet. I start running my fingers through his fur looking for whatever is bothering him and feel a bump or scratch like an insect bite. I rubbed some Benydryl and neosporin on the spot, and 30 seconds later everything is fine. So far, he hasn't been bothered again by whatever was bothering him before.

The only thing I can figure out is that a spider bit him.

1. Maybe it was a mosquito...
They can get really obnoxious at the end of the season.

2. My blood pressure was certainly lowered by
stepping in cold cat puke in the middle of the night. And then stepping in it again with the other foot. Very relaxing.

:sarcasm:

4. How about waking up in the dark to the sound of a pet
hawking something up? Another favorite is hearing one of the dogs crunching away at something. Then you can wonder, what is he eating? A bottle of pills, a disposable razor? A can dragged out of the trash?

9. I'd check with your vet first. My vet has okayed benydryl cream for the

dogs, but recommends cortisone cream as a better alternative. My dogs are mutts, so a pure bred dog may have different sensitivities. I was pretty desperate, so I grabbed what was handy to try to soothe whatever was ailing him. He was getting pretty frantic.

that dissolve in your mouth. The vet said to start giving him 1 1/2 children's strips. He loves them, silly shar-pei that he is, but hey, it gives him minty fresh breath! :)

11. It almost certainly wasn't a spider bite
But it could certainly have been some other bug.

Spider bites are rare in the extreme, but they enjoy mythic status as the default diagnosis when "some sort of bite-looking bump" appears somewhere on someone.

12. There are three reasons I thought of spiders
1. We've noticed spiders dropping down from the ceiling over the couch.

2. He was on the couch when this abruptly started.

3. My husband's had some weird reactions to spider bites.

Who knows, maybe he was just faking me out!

14. Can your husband cling to walls and sense danger before it happens?
That would be cool.
