Late night DUers, what's your 'midnight snack'?
I'm finishing up 'homework' for my English class, and snacking on a batch of peanuts that i had boiling most of the evening. I had forgotten how much i loved these things as a kid.

What's your late-night munchie selection?

1. A nice cold
glass of milk.
As I am presently out of milk, I am substituting vodka.

4. I love
boiled peanuts. When I lived in Florida I had a friend who would make them with crab boil seasoning. Yummmm....

10. My dad made them all the time when i was a kid... it was his
football-watching snack. Most Sundays, he'd set a pot of them to boil in the morning when he made his first cup of coffee, and by the opening kickoff of the 1:00pm game they'd be done.

The last one's i'd had actually came from Florida... we were driving from here to Tampa a couple of years ago, and stopped at a convenience store somewhere on Florida's side of I-75. They had a couple of electric soup-tureens full of them-- one batch just salted, the other one spicy. I got a couple of batches of them for the ride, then made someone else drive for a while. :9

13. I grew up in TX then moved to
Tampa for 30 years before moving first to Tallahassee, then back to Texas
I think some boiled peanuts are going to be coming up for game snacks in the next couple of weeks.
Plus some gumbo in honor the great, and possibly late, Gaido's in Galveston.

5. Normally a fruit and soy protein smoothie and a naked Boca Burger.
Tonight, I've had dog issues, so I have yet to eat dinner. Sucks for me.

12. Two on antibiotics
One with skin issues, one that had a growth removed from his back that decided that sutures weren't something he wanted any more today.

Sigh. Thanks.

6. I just ate an oatmeal scotchie and a chocolate chip-pecan cooke from the Nestle Tool House store
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 11:51 PM by Hissyspit
I bought them yesterday and saved them for tonight.

I have this sneaking suspicion that I need to get into the gym.

Or at least go for a good walk.

basamati rice with peas and doused it with a commercially prepared biryani paste AND thai ginger-peanut sauce. It was SO good.

Mini to me though is huge, so I've just finished eating a canteloupe and am starting on some grapes. I may go for a walk.

19. hey I haven't had boiled peanuts
since I was a kid--would love to have some. What is your recipe--do you have any specific tips for preparing them? or is it just as simple as putting them in boiling water for a while?

Yeah, I know, I have strange tastes.

A really SPECIAL treat is a can of spinach, drained, and nuked with some cheddar cheese. Yum!
