I needs to buy me a bed!
On edit: Not a foam mattress though--I just want a regular mattress that will last.

2. No, this really isn't *that* kind of thread. |

I actually do need to buy a new bed, and I can't decide on one...

3. I've been on a Tempur-Pedic for several months now... |
|
...and am sleeping better than ever. Any new mattress would have been a big improvement over the twelve-year-old cheapie I had, but I am a big fan of the Tempur.

4. Thanks, I'm looking for a regular mattress, though. |

I tried a Tempur-Pedic at a friend's house and it was too hot for me.

Both of the mattresses we have are Serta and both are incredibly comfortable. One mattress is 15 years old and is in great condition. We have no plans to replace it. The other is 12 years old and is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.

6. I second that on Serta |
|
Go to the store and tell them what you want - soft, medium or firm, then lie on what they suggest - and take your time. If it's a reputable store, they'll have a 30 day return policy if you're not satisfied. I got mine from Jordan's - do you have one of their stores near you?

7. I think Serta or Sealy |
|
I recommend the independent coil system. What it is supposed to do is what the Tempur-Pedic might do better, but I don't like foam of any kind. It's hot. Personally I don't like "no-flip" mattresses either. They are marketed as though they are saving you the trouble of turning the mattress, but actually they are saving themselves the expense of padding both sides and there are reasons why you might one day want a fresh new side of the mattress to start over with. I have a Serta independent coil, plush (NOT pillow-top...that's the no-flip ruse); it's the best support and comfort for a side-sleeper I think. I like it a lot. It is a big step up from my old mattress which was I guess too firm with interlocking coils (don't know if that is the right word, but not independent coils). Could barely walk or pick up the paper after a night on that spine mangler.

12. The Westin Heavenly Bed -- it's a Simmons |
|
It's spoiled me for everything else. In other words, if we are away from home, I don't sleep. I have to go home to our wonderful bed. They're available at Nordstrom. It's the most expensive bed we've ever bought, and worth every penny.

15. Plug for Spring Air... my wife's aunt works for them... |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 05:13 AM by mwooldri
... so let's say we got our near top-of-the-line king size bed for about the same amount of money that I paid for my son's budget twin-sized mattress from some discount furniture outlet. (by the time we needed a bed for my son, my aunt-in-law was being hit up for beds from family left right and centre, plus the company had buckled down on employee sales so... not a posh bed for him). It's really comfy... had it 4 1/2 years now, and still going strong.
Mark.

16. I wondered about that one. I want to try the Back Support model |
|
and then I read a bunch of bad reviews online--all saying that it sinks in the middle after only a year or so.
But I don't know. What do you think of the Back Support Spring Air?
