Poll question: Jimmy the Bartender, the advice guy from Men's Health Magazine
http://www.menshealth.com/cda/advicedetail.do?site=MensHealth&channel=sex.relationships&conitem=1effb934e0c53010VgnVCM100000cfe793cd____&expertId=b15999edbbbd201099edbbbd2010cfe793cd____

Q: My girlfriend constantly brings up marriage. Even though I want to marry her, I feel like I'm part of an agenda. And when I do propose, there will be no surprise. Can I fix this?

Adam, Elmhurst, IL

Jimmy The Bartender® answers:

Every Tuesday, a guy named Paul comes in here after work, bugging me to get a satellite dish so he can watch the Tigers play. The more he asks, the louder I say no. The issue here isn't about getting married, Adam; it's about who has the power. If you do want to marry her, then tell her you'll ask when you're ready. But let me tell you, if she doesn't leave you alone now, she'll nag you about the bills, about watching too much sports . . . She'll go on nagging you about damn near anything. And the hardest part is that if the Tigers are driving you crazy, it's not like you can just switch to the Cubbies whenever you feel like it.

1. Ugh.
If it were funny, I might buy it as satire. As it is, it reads just like chauvinism.

2. I posted a pretty representative response..."Jimmy" is old school chauvinist...
...I was a regular reader of the magazine several years ago. I checked it out recently out of curiosity. "Jimmy" is still a regular fixture. I think it's admirable to teach men how to eat right, to exercise, to live a healthy lifestyle. But when it comes to "advice about women," my personal feeling is that the readers of the magazine would be best served asking their questions elsewhere.

3. I think it was spot on about power and control issues...
but anything after that is just self-fellating male bs (IMHO)
