Vibes needed. I think I may be having a reaction to some meds. I have |
|
petechiae that has crept up from my ankles to my arms over the last couple weeks, and now I am itchy all over my arms and face. x(
Stoopid meds.

4. Nah. I live in the hicks. At this rate I figure I can wait 11 more hours until the |
|
clinic opens. Mostly I am just bummed. I just got this med cocktail sorted out, I thought. I don't want to have to screw with it again. *sigh*

With it increasing and now with the itching, I'd at minimum call your Dr. to find out what he wants you to do.

9. Yeah, I might go ahead and call the on-call doc. I think, with my zero medical background, that |
|
what I am dealing with is petechiae possibly from the hydrochlorothyamide (although I took sulfa drugs on and off for more than 2 decades with no trouble.) The other possibility is the Tegretol, but I had a CBC recently and no one said anything about platelet problems. (I did mention some easy bruising a few weeks ago. Nurse told me to stop taking aspirin and ibuprofen and see if that helped.)
The itchy thing might be from the Lamictal. Ever since the Pharmacy switched me to the generic stuff I have been a little bit itchy. Not sure if there is really a correlation there or not.
Feh. I'll go put the kids to bed and see if I can reach the on-call doc. Just in case.

I don't think I am looking at the kind of reaction that will keep me from breathing or anything. But if I do get an itchy rash (not the blood blister one I have now) I'll be in touch with the doc ASAP. That's the one I am supposed to keep an eye out for.

Please call your physician or whoever is on call and at least ask about the symptoms. This way you can relieve your mind and also know you're doing the right thing. Please?

The only benadryl I have on hand is the liquid kids' stuff we got ElderGreenKid for his bout with Lyme's. I bet the whole bottle is one adult dose. :P

Dose for adults is 50mg q 4 hours. Check and see how many mg are in a child's dose. You can over dose on that stuff you know.

26. sulfa puts me in a bad way |
|
I only took it twice, and the second time I started having a reaction like you were describing. Mine started on my elbows and ankles and finally took over my whole body. For some reason, I didn't have a reaction until the course of antibiotics was done, so I had a lot of it in my system. I ended up spending a week in the hospital with hives everywhere, even in my nose, ears, etc. My face was terribly swollen and by the time I got to the doc. I had to get hit with adrenaline to stop the swelling in my throat. Thankfully it wasn't an instant onset, it just got worse and worse over a period of about 16 hours. I hope you get to feeling better soon, and that you don't have as bad a reaction as I did!

27. Wow, you had it bad! I took sulfasalazine off and on for 2 decades, but I have heard that |
|
one can develop a reaction to something even after years of taking it so maybe it was the HCT. At any rate, I saw the doc and they took me off that and the Lamictal until we get some blood test results on Wed.

33. I don't like that. That is too high. When are you seeing the doctor? |
|
If the HCTZ is causing this problem, there are other HTN drugs you could take. I would think that with a diastolic that high, you might need a beta blocker.

34. I'll see the doc on Wed @ 11. Beta blockers came up the first time we |
|
talked about meds, but we went with the diuretic first just to see if it would do the trick.
I might hear from him today since he is supposed to be calling my shrink about the Lamictal, which he also made me stop. I am going to be really mad if I have to quit it again or if I don't hear for a few days on that and have to go all the way back to the 12.5mg half tabs and start all over. x(

41. Nope, am not on baby aspirin. They told me to stay away from aspirin and |
|
ibuprofen when I started bruising easily. (Which I _mostly_ did but my period was kinda bad last week so I took ibuprofen a couple of times. Not sure if that is related to the petechiae or not.)
I just got home from cheering practice and there's no message on my machine from the doc, so I guess he didn't reach the p-doc about the Lamictal. :( I'm pretty tired after throwing all those kids around so I think I will just lounge in the lounge for a while. :P
