Any Other Unitarian Universalists Out There? |
|
I have found 2 UUs besides myself using these forums. If there are any more out there, speak now!
I am YRUU Advisor of UU Fellowship of Waco, TX- the nearest metro area (if you can call it that) to Crawford. Send Bush back please- we have the tar and feathers ready...

1. I once took an online test for religiousity ... |
|
And it returned a score of "Unitarian Universalist" or "Quaker" ...
I think that alone speaks well (according to me) for the UU ... for I am an Atheist, and a secular humanist ...

I really don't see how a UU could be a Republican.

pillar of the congregation, no less, when he'd try to sell me on the dubious virtues of the "Contract with America".
Kind of like Log Cabin Repukes, I guess: tax bracket conquers all.
Edit: Why did I not swap out this $%&*% keyboard when I had the chance?

was a Repuke UU. Forget his name but it still wigs me out. I remember a UU Conservative booth at a UU GA. It was like they spent most of their conversations appologising to everyone.

5. Would you believe a *lapsed* UU? |
|
pretty much the end of the religious road...
My first UU congregation, back in New Haven, is traditionally Universalist (Phebe Hanaford herself once ministered there). Thus, it's been tough to find a home away from home almost anywhere else, especially here where there is only one UU church on the island. In brief, nearly all the congregants are haole (Caucasian), and the minister is a man! (remember we were the FIRST denomination to have more than 50% of ministers be women) Not exactly worth a 45-minute bus ride on Sunday.
The odd thing is, I just found out that a woman I often work with is UU, too, and I never saw here up there when I did go. Her exact words: "Too Christian for me!" That makes at least 3 UUs here (that I know of) in search of a home. Perhaps I should get back to the guy who is also an ordained UU minister and maintains a fellowship that is only sporadically active. He is much more simpatico and was also one of the very few UUs I ever saw at a peace march :(

I don't have a church now, though, because there isn't one anywhere nearby. I really want my kids to grow up UU, so I'm thinking of joining the Church of the Larger Fellowship sometime.

Though its been a while since I went to a service. My social circle is still comprised of UUs and I go to Humanist meetings at a UU church.

...I would be a UU for sure. But I don't have to and I'm pretty happy just being on my own, weird spiritual quest.

16. Where's the coffe hour being held? |
|
Three churches had fires recently. Witnesses reported seeing the clergy of each one rushing into the blazes and rescuing the important relics in each church. They reported seeing the Rabbi come running our with the Torah beneath his arms. The Christian minister was seen bearing a cross out of the fire. They reported seeing the UU minister carrying a coffee machine out of the fire.

18. Brought up UU, and still occasionally attend |
|
Which is pathetic when the biggest UU congregation in the city is exactly one block north of our apartment!
Speaking of which, I'm sure you've heard the old joke about the UU who moves to a small Texas town. After a few months, some friends drop by and ask how he's settling in to a very conservative Protestant community.
"Oh, fine, no problem!" he says. "Why, I've already had two question marks burned on my lawn!"
Buh-da-BOOM!! Thank you! Enjoy the creamed corn, and don't forget to tip your waitresses and bartenders!!

otherwise I would love to get into a UU group. I hear UU congregations have the highest average IQ of any "religious" "organization."
