6. I can TOTALLY believe it was that long.

Luckily, we had a giant cooler that all of our food fit into. We kept the frozen stuff in the freezer with bags of ice. We also have a gas stove, so cooking wasn't so bad.

It's no wonder that there is always a baby boom nine months after a blackout or blizzard.

:hi:

PS...I'll get those pictures off my camera tonight and post them.

20. We had to break down and get a cell phone.
There was just no way that we could go that long without being able to get in touch with people if there was some sort of emergency.

I can't believe I have a cell phone. I feel so.....dirty and hypocritical.

 :bounce:  :bounce:

We spent the weekend visiting family in Green, OH and I was shocked to hear that 300,000 were still w/o power in Ohio as of Saturday evening. We passed a caravan of seven utility type trucks heading in the opposite direction (toward Columbus) on our drive home yesterday afternoon and I commented to Mr Green Meanie that they must be en route to the blackout areas to get the power back on.

:hi:

24. Well, they took their sweet time getting here.

There were 3800 this morning still without power. That was on the radio at about 6am. ZI woke me up to tell me that our power came on at about 9:30am. I hope that everyone else gets their power back soon today. It's just miserable. The sad thing is that I was starting to get used to not having electricity.

Now, I'm just glad to be able to see at night. There's only so many hands of solitaire you can play.

He took a turn up this way and wiped out power all over the midwest.

30. 8 days without power would drive me insane.
No light for reading. No electricity for using the computer. No use of my powerchair because there's no way to recharge it. I'd be stuck at home with no way to do any of the few things I can still manage to do. :(

I'm glad your power is back on.

I hope I never have to survive a situation like that.

33. There was a lot of grumping going around the house.
Me, then ZI, then me, then ZI.

We played a lot of Magic: The Gathering. ZI spent a whole day making 19 random 3 color decks with no repeat cards. We had a pretty fun time. Although, being mana screwed in the dark doesn't help your mood. Trust me. I know. :P

I hope you don't have to go through no power either. This really makes me resolved about putting in solar panels when we finally buy a house.

How are you feeling? I've been gone for a week. How did the hospital stay go?:loveya:

43. Overall, the hospital stay was good.
I slept a lot. They kept me pumped full of so many drugs at all times that it barely noticed my time there. The nurses were wonderful and looked out for me, which was very important at every meal when the food service staff kept trying to kill me with dairy hidden in every item in every meal.

They tell me that the surgery itself went flawlessly. I had a team of 4 surgeons, so I assume 3 of them were residents. I have been trying to find where they probably carved their initials in me to comemmorate a successful surgery, but I haven't found any initials yet. :P

I have been incredibly exhausted every moment of every day for weeks now, and I wish I could get some energy from somewhere. I really wish I could wake up and find some strength and alertness that would stick around for awhile.

But no luck yet.

I'm about to take my evening meds and sleep like the dead for the next few hours. Hopefully I'll get some rest out of this.

:loveya:

39. We used the car that way for one day.
We used a power converter to run an extension cord in the house. Turned on the car and locked the doors. The fish were looking sad and needed air, and the laptops needed charging. Gotta be resourceful. ;)

So glad that's over.

38. Was your power out because of IKE?
I live in Houston, and we are on day 10 of having no power. Power people told Mr. ld today that we won't have it back on on our street until after Oct. 2nd. That stinks. Just today, Mr. ld's in-laws, who live 2 doors down from us, got a generator, and kindly allowed us to run an extension cord to our house. That is why today is the first day in 10 whole, very long days, that I am able to get back on DU! Talk about DU-withdrawal!

Our hot water heater is gas, so at least we have hot water and running water. But other than a couple of lamps and a fan, no power.

41. Yes. We got 78 mph winds.
It knocked down trees and power lines all over Ohio. There were 2 million total across the state that lost power.

I'm so sorry that you have to live with no power for so much longer. It's such a financial drain as well as emotional.

Hang in there. PM me if you ever want to chat.

you are so right about the financial drain. We are eating out every night, because we are sick to death of sandwiches, and its the only way to get a hot meal just now.

I'll keep you posted on our progress; thanks for the hugs and the invite to chat-- I'll take you up on that!
