Movie recommendation: "Fail-Safe."
Anyone else seen it? It's a Sidney Lumet movie from 1964 with Peter Fonda, Walter Matthau and a young pre-"Dallas" Larry Hagman.

Very edge-of-your-seat movie -- think "Dr. Strangelove" without the comedy.

1. And watch for a very nice little dramatic turn by...
...Dom DeLuise! He has to reveal Top Secret info under orders of his superiors. He plays the conflict beautifully.

2. I saw his name in the credits, but I couldn't remember him.
But now I know which one you're talking about.

Did you know Fritz Weaver (Colonel Cascio) is (or maybe was) the voice for The History Channel specials?

3. I have seen it, and I saw the live remake several years ago.
The original Fail Safe is an absolutely must-see, in my opinion.

9. I was working that night :(
As far as I know, it hasn't been repeated, has it? I'd love to see it.

Clooney's on the DVD extras, and it's apparent he had quite a passion for it. Plus, anything done live is worth seeing, if only for that novelty.

12. To my knowledge, it has never been re-broadcast.
I wish someone would show it.

4. I have the DVD
Before that, I'd taped it from TCM.

Seen it prolly 20 times. Hell of a film — one of my all-time favorites. Outstanding performances all around, particularly Fonda, Matthau and Larry Hagman. Terrific direction and cinematography.

5. I've been on a Lumet marathon lately.
There's still a lot left, but I've seen almost all of his "must-see" films so far.

11. I've seen 'Network,' 'Dog Day Afternoon' and 'Twelve Angry Men'
I think Lumet's one of the best ever. I'd rank him almost with Bogdanovich.

14. It's one of the best films of all time, IMO
Kinda bugs me, though, that Ned Beatty is probably best remembered as Otis in the "Superman" movies. His performance in "Network" was outstanding.

15. Onscreen for five minutes, and he practically steals the movie.

16. Damned near
I don't know if that can rightfully be called a soliloquy, but it was an amazing scene.

18. My civics teacher in high school showed this film to all his students.
I am crapping you negative. Closed the books for two days to watch and discuss this film.

Scared the bejeebus out of most of us.

Many people thought the teach was kind of goofy when,in fact, he was a decorated WWII pilot.
