Some good memories for all you oldies out there (like me)
Do you remember these things?

...saving your money for WEEKS so you would have enough to go out and buy a great new album that just came out.

...going to the "record store" and flipping through the bins of the albums.

...taking the record home and cutting the cellophane off it. Remember how pristine the album cover looked, and how good it smelled?

...removing the record and looking at it before you put it on the turntable. Remember how you could tell the "long songs" by the big distance between the grooves? This was when radio stations rarely played songs that were longer than 3 minutes. Sometimes, one song would be the entire side of an album, hence, no grooves. If you wanted to look for a section in that long song, you would have to manually move the needle around until you found it. After awhile, you got so good at it, you could find it on the first try.

...Remember how "warm" the music sounded, with its analog sound and occasional pop and scratch?

I was thinking about these things today as I was driving and listening to "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Stones on a CD. This was a long song for the time, and there was a big space between the grooves on the "Hot Rocks" album.

CD's are convenient, but in many ways, they suck.

1. I remember the day
I realized that if I took care of my albums they would sound better, longer. Went from a pile of albums scattered around the living room floor to carefully taking the album out of the cover, carefully out of the sleeve, handling only by the edges, and using! a record cleaner. Then carefully putting the record away, turning the sleeve a quarter turn so the record wouldn't slide out.

Ahh, vinyl:toast:

I forgot about those!

Yep, I remember the "handling by the edges" thing, etc.

Good memories!
