Practice thread for a fellow DUer - please ignore
Welcome to the Lounge GrannyK -a few years back, fellow DUer, MissHoneychurch brought me here and taught me these very instructions regarding cutting and pasting photos.

#1 Here is a topic related photo from this link: http://theamericanpatriotinstitute.blogspot.com/2008/09/veterans-for-peace-is-taking-action.html

#2 place your mouse icon directly over photo and RIGHT CLICK.
#3 note grayed out rectangle, (menu box) with about 20 options on it, some are active options, (dark ones) some are not, (faded or grayed) run your mouse courser to the one which reads "Properties" (It's the bottom option for me) LEFT CLICK on that 'Properties' option. It should open a new menu box titled Properties.
#4 Note Address (URL): Run your mouse arrow over to that address. Note how when you move the arrow over that address and back off of that address it changes from an arrow to an I shape. Move the arrow just a tiny bit to the left of the 'h' on http.
#5 Move mouse arrow to where it just changes over to that 'I' shape, it should be the very left edge of that 'h' on 'http', now LEFT CLICK AND HOLD that click down until I tell you to let it go. You should see a blue overlay of that 'h'
#6 While holding that Left click on your mouse down, move the cursor from left to right across the first line painting a blue overlay across the first line of that address-go slightly past that first line to ensure that you paint the entire first line. (Keep holding that left click down.)
#7 Now move your mouse down slightly-note how the second line is now painted blue. Continue down with your mouse a little more and a third line of text may reveal itself and be painted blue as well. (In my case it does exactly that.) Go ahead and release that left click now, check to make sure that the entire address is now painted blue. If not left click again in a neutral area and the blue disapears-restart step 7 and make sure to get the entire address.
#8 Take mouse arrow and run it anywhere into the blue area and RIGHT CLICK click again, a new smaller box opens up with 6 options, one reads "Copy" LEFT CLICK on it and the box will disappear.
#9 now go to the bottom of the Properties menu box and LEFT CLICK on 'OK' the property menu box will disappear. You have now 'captured or 'cut' the photo. (Important: NOT every photo let's you do this)
#10 now hit the respond icon like you would normally do when responding to a post or an OP-opening your DU respond box.
#11. You can type in any words you like or add the photo link wherever you like in the response at this point. Take note of the blinking text icon cursor that lets you know where the next letter of text is about to go, your photo's link is about to go EXACTLY there.
#12. LEFT CLICK and a new small grey menu-box will appear with 6 options. LEFT CLICK on 'Paste'. The address which you captured will appear. Congratulations, you have just copied and pasted a photo into a thread of the DU! You can not see it yet, not until you either hit the 'Preview' button, (suggested) or the post button.

As Jackie Gleeson used to say: "And Awaaaaay We Go!" Be sure to bookmark this thread, return to it if you need to. Save this bookmark to be passed along to the future fellow DUer you run across who are 'tech-challenged' and need instructions on cutting and pasting photos.

Go ahead and practice here in this thread, find other photos online and bring them here and post them in your responses. There is a good chance that you will get further helpful hints as you do this from fellow loungers-be sure to reward them with photos of kittens. (Sorry guys, resistance was futile)
If you run into Miss Honneychurch here be sure to give her a hug for me, she was a good teacher and the very nicest German you will have hugged this day.

for the curious, this all started here
