Want to hear something really cool? |
|
My boss is paying for a social worker for me to help me transition smoothly from work to disability.
This doesn't mean I'm going out on disability yet, but it means we're preparing for it. He's making sure I have help so I won't have any gaps where I have no income or no insurance while I wait for bureaucratic approvals.
How cool is that?
I'm still scared to death because I have always had all kinds of bad luck, and don't have a family to fall back on if things get tough. I have no margin of error or safety cushion. But it's really awesome to have a boss who offers this kind of help.
And he's an outspoken Democrat!
And apparently my spelling really sucks right now because the spell checker won't shut the fuck up. :P

5. In many ways he is a great boss. |
|
He does have some serious flaws. He's a cheap boss. And he doesn't back up his employees, ever. When there is a problem we're always on our own. But he means well and he does his best as he sees it to do well by his empoyees. I wish he had a few of the qualities of some of my former bosses, but overall he is probably the best boss I have ever had. :)

6. I hope it turns into really good news. |

We'll see if the social worker can produce some results. The social workers I found on my own through varous agencies were totally useless. This guy seems like he's more on the ball than they were, but I'm waiting until the results come in. Then I'll dance in my chair. :)

And not everyone who is a Democrat has the values. I'm glad your boss does.

I wish his values were more consistently progressive. But I'm glad that they're at least as progressive as they are, and progressive enough to make him a solid democrat.
I can't imagine where I would be if he wasn't bending over backwards to keep me working for him. :)

4. I've never heard of anyone doing that, how awesome! |
|
I've worked with a couple people (both with MS) who were deemed unfit for duty despite their desire to continue working and they were just unceremoniously told to scram. You must have a great boss, I wish there were more like him.

8. I wish there were more bosses like that too. |

He owns the company, so he can. I don't know if he could do this if he was just a boss but not the owner.
I have taken almost 40 sick days so far this year, but it hasn't seriously impacted our client yet because I work my ass off. I work my ass off as much as I can when I'm able to make it in to work and I even come in on weekends when I can to catch up. My boss knows this.
When my downtime starts affecting the client and my boss is forced to bring in someone else to pick up my work, no matter how nice a guy he is I'll be out the door. He can't afford to pay two people to do my job.

A lot of which might come from your friends here at DU! Not only that, but at least you seem to have a fall-back thing, too! I wish you the best in your transition, I know it ain't easy!
It is obvious that everyone loves you

12. I am always surprised when people are interested in helping me. |
|
But I appreciate it, and definitely don't turn away help when it is offered. :)
I really hope it goes well. So many things have gone wrong, horribly wrong, over and over and over again. I really need something this important to go right.
