Ok, here it is, as of now, with my newest thing:
Monday: Class from 10-11 am, Private Tutoring from 11-12/1, Classes from 2-3, 4-6:30 pm
Tuesday: Internship from 11-5
Wednesday: Classes from 10-11, Private Tutoring from 11-12/1, Class 2-3
Thursday: Internship from 12-6, Collective Meeting 6:30-9 pm
Friday: Class from 10-11, Private Tutoring from 11-12/1, Class from 2-3
Saturday: Boston Area Student Interns Collaborative Workshops, 2-4 pm.
*Also* my Thesis and Conference Prep. And offsite work for the Internship, the Collective, and the Workshops.
I'm doing it all. I need to restructure my schedule outside of those times and buckle down on my time management. Discipline is needed. Good practice for Grad school, I say.
What say y'all? :)

Only you can determine whether you have time for it all. You are young and healthy. Enjoy your energy level while you have it! :hi:

I'm not that young! I'm 31! |
|
I have the time theoretically. When crunch time comes, well...I'll sleep when I'm dead.
My former Dept Chair wants me to apply to MIT for my PhD, so I guess I'll learn all about life without sleep and fun now. :D

2. My wife is in her third semester of grad school. |

what you really need is a liquor store close by. It's just jumping through flaming hoops of dogshit. Really. No big deal. When do you study? Are your grades going to suffer?

6. My actual 3 classes are cake...300 level Econ |
|
I could do it in my sleep. It's my Thesis, my Internship, and the Collective that will drain me.
And that's ok. :)
Like I said, I have to rework my schedule and carve out time for everything I have to do. But the Boston Intern Collaborative thing is a can't miss opportunity, and I really want to do it. Plus, Saturday is one of my only free days. I hate College Football!

He's fully supportive of me, and he's busy too. Plus, if we're so busy now, he can save up his vacation time for a kickass break after I graduate.

5. I kept a similarly hectic schedule when I was in grad school. |

In addition to a full load of grad classes (12 hours), I worked 4 different jobs: taught 2 freshman comp classes, worked in the writing lab, worked 12 hours a week as an advisor in the college of education for secondary ed students, and pulled a few hours a week at my dad's business.
One of my professors threatened to kill me with his bare hands if I didn't scale back (he was afraid I'd get burned out). I did come close to burnout one semester, but ultimately I was able to do just fine. For me--and I suspect this may be true for you, too--I found it easier to be disciplined if I had more on my plate. Idle hands and the devil's playground, etc. etc. etc.

7. When you have this much, you have to schedule, schedule, schedule... |
|
Right?
That's what my White-board is for :D
I was with my Former Dept Chair today, and when I told him all that I had going on, he looked at me like I have 3 heads.
But, he said that he knew I could do it, and he wants me to apply to the MIT Urban and Regional Planning PhD program. He's gonna write me a letter. :wow:

An ex-boyfriend of mine (and still good friend) spent several years working as Ed Bacon's right hand (now-retired city planner for Philadelphia, and father of Kevin Bacon). It's a really fascinating field!

10. The admissions thing looks tough! |
|
They take 1 out of 9 applicants. :o
But, my former Dept Chair is convinced that I can get in. He said "You have an impeccable academic record, you're a great writer and researcher, and you're going to have excellent recommendations. You can do it."
Squee! That felt nice. :)

You should feel very, very proud of yourself right now.

|
I'll be ok. I'm going to take off work next Tuesday to sit and look at all of my syllabi and schedules and work with my white-board and paper calendars. I'll feel better then. :)

More than that and I'm a zombie, really. Less than that, I can manage with caffeine.
5 is ideal during the school year. Summer, 8-10. I have a system. And, I eat like a monster between Sept-May. :D

As my Thesis adviser says, I'm a "self-starter"...i.e. a ridiculously motivated nerd who will do whatever it takes to get where I want to go. Sleep be damned! :D
