Do I have issues? I think the "skip it" marker is mean
Marking a thread disruptive is perfectly understandable but "skip it" seems really mean spirited. I guess I bought into that feel good self-esteem shit too much, huh?

1. Yes, "skip it" is mean.
Some how one of CaliforniaPeggy's threads got a "Skip it" last night. That was EVIL. :( :grr:

what is "skip it"?

25. It's a rating you can give a thread on the new
rating system. It does not make any sense to me. What does "skip it" really mean? If you really want to skip it, just skip it why advertise it. If you bother to rate a thread it means you didn't skip it in the first place.

2. Don't worry about it...
Someone is marking my posts "skip it" as soon as I post. Even if it is a serious post. Ignore it.

And I'm waiting for my OP to get marked "skip it" counting down...

16. What was happening today, Ava, is that as soon as I would post...
Someone would jump on it and rate it as "skip it". then, someone would eventually rate it up, and the "skip it" would disappear. :hi:

5. Would you prefer "skim quickly through this one"?
How about "it's all downhill after the Original Post"? Consider "maybe read." Would the contrast with "must read" be too blunt?

9. Maybe it should either be must read or
not rated. "Skip it" is too dismissive. If you don't like a post just don't rate it. If it's sexist or homophobic push alert.

Honestly, I think we should all resist rating threads except under the most exceptional circumstances. It just isn't necessary.

10. I'm not familiar with this new thing
All I see is a few threads that say "skip it." None that say "must read." Do people really need someone else to tell them whether to read a thread or not?

I agree it is mean. I don't care for the feature. I don't use the ignore feature either. Nobody chomping on my heels around DU, long ago I had a heel-chomper out to get me elsewhere. The ignore feature would come in handy for me only in exceptional situations like that.

Meanwhile, I read posts whose titles grab my attention. If the word "Kitteh" is in the title, it's a "Must Read!" ; )

19. Yeah it's not as bad as it was yesterday
Last night people were going crazy with the rating system. Not only marking skip it, but they were marking almost every thread "must read". In reality there are really only a couple must read threads per page, IMO.

one that could be ripe for abuse.

better phrasing would be helpful.

40. Nah, I can see what you're saying
I'm not sure if the new rating system is having the intended effect upon me: if I see a thread marked as "skip it" or "disruptive" it makes me more likely to read it, probably 'cause I figure it's more interesting. Kind of like reading all of the "one star" reviews of something on Amazon.com, which I also tend to do!
