I'm taking Sniffa to the ER
He can't breathe when he's laying down, and still short of breath when he's sitting up. I'm worried about pneumonia. So we're off to the hospital. Think good thoughts.

2. Prayers for sniffa, bb!!
Sounds like asthma attacks I've had. There's nothing worse than not being able to breathe. Hope they find the cause and he's feeling well again, soon!!

14. And we're back and...it's...Asthma!
He's feeling 100% better after his nebulizer treatment and he has an inhaler 'script that I'll pick up in the morning. He just passed out as soon as we got home.

:)

17. Glad everything's OK.
And give him a hug for me--there's nothing more terrifying than that sensation of not being able to breathe. :scared:

18. Oh, I will! Scared the crap out of me too!
Let's put it this way, my Dad has mild emphysema, and his breathing sounds nowhere as bad as this did. I shook Sniffa awake and made him sit up, b/c it just did not sound right, at all. Yikes.

Whew.

:loveya:

32. Call me Dr. Frist!
I've only had two asthma attacks in my life--both at my parent's house in Wisconsin. Both times I landed in the ER. The doc there thought I must be allergic to some localized mold or something. Now, I keep an inhaler at my dad's house, but I haven't need it lately.

There is NOTHING worse than not be able to breathe! I'm glad Sniffa is doing better!

15. We are home now!
Thankfully the ER was empty. No pneumonia, but...asthma! Inhaler prescription, and a nebulizer treatment at the ER. He feels fine now, and is passed out cold in bed. In fact, he fell asleep during the treatment in the ER.

Thank you all for the good thoughts. He sounded like he had emphysema, the way he was breathing in bed. That's why I woke him up, I was scared. Everyone is fine now. :)

25. Could be post-viral asthma.
I get asthma, but only when I'm sick, or after I've been sick. It sucks.

23. I would *definitely* look into allergy testing
If he's never been diagnosed with asthma before, there is a good chance that there's an allergic trigger that caused this incident. I spent my entire childhood being told I had uncontrollable asthma, and sick as a dog. Got tested for allergies as an adult, turns out just one allergy pill a day and I haven't had a single asthma attack in the 9 years since except when I managed to get a viral pneumonia a couple years ago (living in Texas, red cedar season damn near killed me every year, but no one twigged to it being an allergy, the dummies, it's even got a name, cedar fever).

27. Thank God. You had me scared to death.
Laying down and not being able to breathe can also mean congestive heart failure. It's what Mr. had.

Asthma is very, very treatable.

HE NEEDS TO QUIT SMOKING!!!!!!!
